Complex aroma of sweet caramel, brown sugar, dry fruit, spices (coriander, timothy etc), yeast and a tiny but warming hint of alcohol. Possible to just there and sniff at the glass for eternity! Flavor is no disappointment, harmonic, warming, fruity, sweet, caramel, malt, sugar, raisins and spices. Full body and extremely delicious, alcohol is well hidden but very warming. Just love it. It pours a dark ruby beer with a dense, slightly beige head of a rather big size. The nose is of malt, alcohol, oranges, plums, raisins, rosemary, brown sugar and thyme. Lots of yeast showing up. The taste is very sweet malty, syrupy with lots of melon, toffee and yeast. Extremely smooth and nicely spicy with oranges and banana appearing which are accompanied by chocolate and molasses. Highly drinkable despite its strength. Caramel, alcohol, licorice and a lot of yeast in the finish. Definately quite a lot of thyme in there. decaturstevo (1980), decatur, Tennessee, USA

Deep dark translucent red body with vigourous carbonation. Fruity yeasty bready licorice and spice aroma. Dry sharpish licorice and fruit taste with spicy peppery notes. Considerable alcohol heat as well as carbonation in the mouth. Dry wooden spicy alcoholic licorice aftertaste. Some chocolate, too. Surprisingly light in body and taste. Very nice! Aroma of brown sugar, yeast, caramel, and raisins. A bit of warmth shines through the sweet taste. Some spiciness, also. Sticky, sticky texture. Fairly nice in a reasonable serving size. mike1977ok (637), Netherlands
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 1/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Pours a muddy brown colour with no head. Thin texture and quite fizzy on the tongue. Flavour is dry and a little woody with a sweeter aftertaste. The thyme is just traceable but adds nothing to a mediocre beer.
