Pours a clear, dark amber with a moderate off-white head that lasted through mid-glass and left no lacing. Pleasant aroma of malt and just a hint of spice. More flavorful than the aroma suggests with thyme, citrus and yeast present with a strong malt backbone. The alcohol was very well hidden. Enjoyable. hophead75 (1961), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

A dark brown beer with a light brown head, mostly diminishing, fine lacings. Aroma heavy malty (brown sugar, figs, chocolate, orange) moderate hoppy. Flavor heavy sweet ending in moderate bitter, fine balance. Medium body, creamy, flat carbonated, you don’t feel the strength. scraff (1946), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Complex nose of spices, berry, dried apricot, dark candy sugar, citrus, herbs, and a hint of wet earth. Flavor is similar with spiced up front sips that gain a near perfect bittersweet hoppiness in the end. This one is all about the balance. Full bodied, zesty carbonation, warming, dry, bittersweet finish. Really nice.... altonbrownd (1941), Amsterdam, Netherlands
