Poured a muddy brown color with ruby red highlights and a two finger off white head. The aroma was thyme, coriander and a sour note. The flavor was very spicy, with some warming alcohol, and a bit of metal on the tip of the tongue. The palate was average, with a very dry mouthfeel, average carbonation and a medium body. Earthy, peppery, funky yeast, dark fruits (mostly figs and raisins, some plum in there as well), spices, fresh herbs, sweet and roasty caramel malt, subtle floral and bitter hops, and a touch of warming alcohol. Aftertaste of pumpernickel, anise, caramel, earth, and the funk. Full, balanced palate. Well carbonated while at the same time soft and smooth. Excellent brew and is not pasteurized. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 3, 2008 Bottled 75cl. It pours a dark ruby beer with a dense, slightly beige head of a rather big size. The nose is of malt, alcohol, oranges, plums, raisins, rosemary, brown sugar and thyme. Lots of yeast showing up. The taste is very sweet malty, syrupy with lots of melon, toffee and yeast. Extremely smooth and nicely spicy with oranges and banana appearing which are accompanied by chocolate and molasses. Highly drinkable despite its strength. Caramel, alcohol, licorice and a lot of yeast in the finish. Definately quite a lot of thyme in there. BoBoChamp (1414), Gent, Belgium

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2008 750 ml bottle. Dark reddish mahogany colour. Tall light beige fluffy head that clings to the glass. Crystal clear. High carbonation level. Light raisiny aroma with a hint of candi sugar. Some soapy aromas and the traditional Belgian yeast character. Münchener malt. Medium-bodied. A bit sugary, but there is quite a bit of malt here as well. Balanced. The alcohol can be noticed, but is well hidden. Hints of black pepper and sweet raspberries. Very drinkable given its strength. Nice. SuzyGreenberg (1408), Seattle, Washington, USA

Very smooth compared to the high percentage. Amounts of spice, brown ale notes, fruits and a wish for more of this bottle.
