Somewhat clear and sparkling body with a mahogany color. Huge spicy and fruity notes. Cinnamon, caramel, mix of dark fruit, pepper like notes, almost soy sauce like, yeast. I just have that Christmas feel to it. Full bodied with an average carbonation and hint of alcoholic texture. Flavor was moderated sweet with light notes of bitterness. Finish was spicy sweet and somewhat liquorish lingering. Excellent Christmas beer. Rciesla (3777), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Malty, fruity, toffeeish, salty and sweet nose with lots of anise. Sweet-malty, yeasty, quite bitter and hoppy, fruity, slightly spicy and alcoholic flavor. Very smooth, foamy-carbonated, medium-bodied, bitter and slightly slicky-alcoholic palate. A quite nice and pleasant, beautiful dessert brew. A bit strangely bitter, but that is gone with the yeasty part added. Probably best, if you mix the yeast in from the beginning. Anise really shows up when warm. Dedollewaitor (3759), Odense, Denmark

Rather weak sweet aroma, which also included some clove spice, and maybe even alittle chocolate. taste was orange, some licorice, certainly spices were noted here. This had a very lively, bubbly mouthfeel. Alcohol warming on the way down. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2004 2003 Vintage; Tasted December 6, 2004; Rating #1000 Dark reddish/black color with a medium head. Bready aroma with a hint of fruit, possibly cherry. Solid malt body with a touch of winter spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, maybe ginger). A little dash of herbs are there too, but not to the extent as, say Rochefort 10. The alcohol is not particularly well hidden. Ralph says: "It tastes like burning!" Still, a damn fine brew and a good one to celebrate 1000 with!
