Aroma and taste is of dark fruits, spices and alcohol. This has the average Christmas beers sweetness - this is very pleasant though. Full body and and creamy texture. One of my favorite christmas beers. NICE indeed! Rerate feb. 09. 0,2 down . . . talon1117 (628), Bellvue, Colorado, USA

Pours a murky burgandy color with notable effervescents; head is beige, mostly full, and creamy/frothy with a fairly small amount sticking around and leaving nice tight Belgain lace. Nose is great; rich caramel and brown sugar-esque malts with some currant, orange peel, and a little floral with clove and yeast to back. Flavor is similar, rich caramel/chocolate malts, cinnamon, raisins, orange peel, some undefinable spiciness, and the thyme really makes for a earthy/floral flavor coming around towards the end. Palate is full, moderate carbonation, and silky, almost round. Finishes long and sweet initially with raisin and chocolate, but dries out slightly leaving more bitterness with the thyme (earthy/floral) and orange peel note. My favorite Christmas Belgain and up there with some of the other really good Belgians. The spicing is unique and really make the beer enjoyable. Like no other (a Belgain thing, apparently) and certainly something I will revisit when the next Christmas rolls around. ROGUE (700), Newark, Delaware, USA

Poured a dark amber brown that was very opaque with a thin cream colored head. Aroma was sweet with winter spices. A thick flavor of brown sugar, ripe dark fruits, rich roasted malts, nuts and winter spices. Very well balanced and smooth. Not one ingrediant overpowering another and the alcohol is nicely subdued but you still get a nice warmin gfeeling. A wonderful winter treat. fonefan (11878), VestJylland, Denmark

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Pours cloudy, deep brown and amber with an off-white head. The aroma is fruity and sugary with some hop aroma and some banana. The flavor starts dry on the front of the tongue and bubbly. There is some bubble-gum, chocolate, caramel, and fruity yeast. There is more hop flavor and tingly bubbles on the middle of the tongue - and the flavor tastes a little musky with hints of smoke. The beer finishes dry and cloying with some alcohol in the flavor, lots of funky yeast, chocolate, more muskiness, and a touch of grassiness. Quite nice and delicious overall. Wonderful brown sugar and toffee, and actually there is some roast evident but it is extremely faint. Taste almost like an eisboch but with many more spicey notes. Sour apple dominates the nose, some prune on the swallow. Very nice indeed, and it leaves a beautiful thick lacing of tan all over the glass.
