updated 1/2006: cloudy reddish-brown colour with a rocky, brown-tainted head and a nice lacing; strong estery nose, notes of apple and melon; sweet with a robust malt backbone; long malty and fruity finish with notes of caramel and some residual sugars; a hint of warming alcohol brings the final touch to this very enjoyable beer

1/2001: bordeaux colour, banana aroma, spicy, sweet, full-bodied, spicy aftertaste

Malty and juicy with a belgian yeast flare. Lovely herbal, leafy tones placed over a chewy malt bedding. Decadency in a glass.

Best chouffe yet! A bit brown with a nice syrupy sweet taste. Very easy to drink amidst the high abv but the belgians know how it’s done. Warming me up today like nothing else.

(Bottle). Small off-white head, mostly diminishing, fair lacing. Light brown body. Honey sweet aroma with hints of bread, complex yet subtle and pleasing. Moderated sweetness as well as acidic flavor at first. Light curacao bitterness toward the end of average duration. Very pleasing flavors. Medium high body, lively carbonation, very low alcoholic final (very interesting). A very well balanced masterpiece! Sampled at MartinT’s place with other RateBeerians for the "Montreal’s Voyager Par Les Papilles’ first tasting session".

Bottle: some yeasty sourness, very fruity, malty, some weak cherry and berries like notes, some dark fruits notes, some weak chocolaty notes, mild but persistent hoppiness all the way through, some caramel sweetness, full bodied, alcoholic bite but a nice one, a good example of a typical belgian ale.
