Jan 8, 2003 [draught] Dark with a very big and frothy head. Some banana, yeast and malt in the aroma. A little alcohol and lots of Christmas spices in the flavour. A very spicy and warming Winter brew.

Mar 25, 2003 1998 Version. Fruity, candy nose, some spiciness. Murky brown, a large toffee head. Prunes, plums, raisins, bready, warm alcohol presence. Incredibly complex, Wonderfull, tongue tingle. Superb!

May 26, 2005 Updated: Dec 26, 2005Described as a barley wine on tap at Old Bay, though I knew it was an from the Chouffe family. A wonderful winter beer that is a delight to enjoy over an hour. Had it in late May outside, though it was only about 50 degrees so I guess it felt like Winter enough. Alcohol is very present, though it is pleasant and easy to drink. Very fruity and wonderful.

Dec 10, 2006 Updated: Jul 3, 20082006. cloudy dark brown. large brown head. malt , berry, herbs, and spices in aroma. lots of flavors. (lemon, peanuts, strawberries, other assorted tart berries, freshly mowed grass, unripe black seeded grapes, anise, licorice. sweet and sugary with tons of spices. lots of herbal notes. just wonderful. my favorite la chouffe. 2007 edition is not nearly as good, but i’m still keeping my 06 rating.

Dec 14, 2008 Pours a beautiful opaque chocolaty brown with a fine-bubbled head. The malty and strongly spicy aroma has a firm hint of chocolate. Flavor is rich with a nice balance of hops and malt, as well as an overtone of cloves and a hint of sweetness. Finish is lively and tingly.

Jan 21, 2007 2006- Pours dark brownish amber w/ a full, semi creamy froth. Aroma of dark belgian rock candy. Medium nectar w/ mellow residual effers creates a soft creamy texture. Sweet yet refined and balanced. Flavors of dried fruit rollup w/ spices. Cherry, plumb, cocoa, melon, moscato grapes, bubblegum dust, bark, molases, The finish is finely bittered just enough to allow the moderate sweetness to linger. Not cloying. No medicine or cherry caughdrop. Very pleasant. Highly recommended.
