The taste is actually very smooth and surprisingly creamy with barley sugar sweets again and toffee, not a lot else but very nice all the same, I might age a bottle for a few years. Lots of caramel , sugar, and alcohol in the nose and flavor; quite simple in fact. Palate is a little thin as well. Not very impressed with this one. EithCubes (2169), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 24, 2008 Sucker has wildly varying ratings. Bottle. Absolutely stunningly lovely fruity nose, with berry, light cherry, figs, dates, oranges, caramel, pine, pepper, and a luscious grapey malt. A little dust, a little hint of resin, and subtle floral notes. Amber-orange body with a creamy beige head. Taste is rich and malty, very sugary and a little rough with significant alcohol warming, though nothing like what Avery puts out. Full, slippery body, lovely fruity accents detected in the nose have all but disappeared. Taste is a bit thin, all told. I really would like to try an aged bottle, see if the little yeasties can take out some of the sweet. Definitely the equivalent of a dessert wine. DSG (1515), Tel Aviv, Israel
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Vintage 2000. Thank you so much Per for bringing me this 8-year (!) old bottle. Deep amber color with no head and with lots of floaties. Aroma has malt, alcohol, some Port-wine notes, some caramel and fruits. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, some honey, light toasted hints, some fruits, and a rather dry finishe with alcohol. Medium to full-bodied, slightly oily in texture. Not a great Barley Wine but still quite enjoyable nonetheless. AmEricanbrew (1942), orange, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 16, 2008 Clear amber with a thin sheen. Big pit fruit, malty sweet aroma with mild oxidation. Smooth medium body. Decent pit fruit sweet flavor with a nice alcohol spice twang to finish. Not sure if this beer was cooked, aged or both. jazz88 (2239), San Francisco, California, USA

Some caramel and vanilla. Small toast and light alcohol. Thinner body, low carbonation. Not quite watery. Astringently sweet. Light malt. Very small hops, some alcohol. Pleasant enough. A little fruity and dry in finish.
