| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2008 Bottled. Beer is clear, light golden brown. Head is small, white, frothy. Mostly diminishes, ultimately lasts as a thin crust on the edge and a skim on the surface.
The aroma is malty with light notes of toasted grain, cookie; Hoppy with light notes of flowers, herbs, dried apricots; Yeasty with light notes of dusty cellar; Light miscellaneous notes of wood, generic tropical fruit, traces of slightly vinous white raisin, winter spices.
The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic with a long, light-to-moderately acidic, light-to-moderately sweet finish. Trace of bitterness to clean up the aftertaste.
The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is average.
Nice enough little number. Although it smells like a BSA, IMHO. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Bottle, 2007. Pours an amber colour with a white head. Very malty on the nose with a good fruitiness and a hint of alcohol. Nice! Flavour begins with a sweetness. Malty and fruity - bitter orange and some spices and roasted notes. A hint of alcohol. A small amount of bitterness. Not bad, but there are definitely better barley wines out there! BOLTZ7555 (1107), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Crystal clear and mild for the style, this beer is deceptively strong. Soft, subtle, and simple...it lacks the complexity and boldness that one would expect/require of a top-notch barley wine. Sugary sweet up front, slightly bitter finish, not a lot in between. Glad I tried it but not a favorite.
