Commercial Description:
Translation from website: "A beer with a strong, and obvious sweetness. Drink it now, or why not save it a couple of years? It will only improve with time."

This classic hearty ale started out a gold medal winner in the Swedish Homebrewing Championships in 1993, and went on to win gold in the World Beer Cup in 2000. A little something to see you through the longest darkest night.

Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil. Very pale amber beer with a thin white head. Aroma of dried apricot, honey and almonds. Soft peachiness and loads of . Fairly prominent honeyish sweetness behind loads of toffee. It’s okay, but not really the type of barleywine I go for.

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured clear copper color with an average white frothy head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate spicy malty and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet spicy flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. I would recommend this to a freind.

Bottle at Spuyten. Not much head at all. Aroma is vanilla, toffee and caramel. Body is creamy smooth without being over the top sticky. Caramel is all over this which ain’t bad, cause I like caramel. Sweet and lively.

Bottle. Grainy barley sweet aroma rather ordinary. Dark golden body with thin white head. Moderate sweetness with chewy bread notes. A pepper spice bitter flavor is not the best and leaves a stale wheat aftertaste on palate. Wife got me this one for christmas, she the lady.

The aroma has caramel, hops, and sugar. The appearance is light amber. The flavor is like the aroma. It’s not that bad but it’s not right for this style. The palate is thin. The finish is papery. This is weak for a barley wine.

33 cl bottle. Pours a clear golden amber color with a small disappearing whitish head. The aroma is sweet malt and citrus notes with an alcohol presence. The flavor is sweet malt and some citrus up front. There is a noticeable hop presence in the mid palate as the bitterness increases. The finish seems to have a slight roasted character. This is an interesting barley wine. Tasted along side the Speakeasy Old Godfather and finished after it, this one was clearly better. Medium/full bodied and pretty smooth. I will age one and check it later.

Red-golden with a small, dens head. The aroma isn’t very powerful considering the style, but it does have malt, caramel and a light sweetness. The flavour is sweetish with notes of malt, caramel, candy sugar, alcohol, raisin, a touch of licorice and a light, slightly spicy bitterness.

Crystal clear amber/copper. Small off-whte head. Aroma of toasty caramel/toffee sweetness, rich malt, and some past ripe fruit. Very sweet smelling. Flavor adds subtle cocoa and a graham cracker biscuity malt element. Could use more hops, some nice noble for bittering. Full/medium body, just a bit smoother than balanced, a little richness. Decent. I’d like more balance.
