Commercial Description:
Translation from website: "A beer with a strong, and obvious sweetness. Drink it now, or why not save it a couple of years? It will only improve with time."

This classic hearty ale started out a gold medal winner in the Swedish Homebrewing Championships in 1993, and went on to win gold in the World Beer Cup in 2000. A little something to see you through the longest darkest night.

Bottle 2001 version. Small head with short duration. Color is hazy amber. Aroma is sweet with some alcohol. Taste is sugary with lots of alcohol too. Vinous with a bitter finish.

(Bottle 33 cl) Vintage 2002. Pours an almost clear, amber golden with a tiny, off-white head. Soft aroma of overripe fruit. Very full-bodied and a very smooth mouthfeel - partially due to the low carbonation. Has very distinct, sweetish caramel accents, vanilla and again this typical overripe fruitiness. The finish is full of overripe fruit. This really has aged quite gracefully. 080507

Unclear amber with no head. Aroma & taste is very sweet malty caramel, hoppy & alcohol sugary. Nice texture - ok filling & smooth. Alcohol well hidden & overall well balanced. Great Barley wine!

Bottle. Clear amber, small off-white head that quickly disappears. Fruity malt aroma with the typical NO fresh grain touch. Some rostaed notes along with toffee and herbal hops. Medium bodied. Sweet aroma, alcohol completely hidden, moderate bitterness but still well balanced. A bit plain for a barley wine.

(Bottle) Pours beautiful clear red. Fruity, malty aroma with the Nils Oscar house graininess. Rather sweet and complex with tones of caramel, toffee, orange peel, grapefruit, raisins, figs, apples, hops and some honey. Tiny roasted with subtle spicy hints. Medium sweet and medium bitter flavour with tones of dried fruits, caramel and hops. A bit honey-ish and syrupy, but not cloying, more fresh and clean mouthfeel wise. Some alcohol warmth. The Nils Oscar graininess comes through in the flavour as well. A light sugary sweetness lingers. Medium body. A nice but maybe a bit too friendly Barley Wine.

Bottle sampled on 9/20/06, 2005 vintage courtesy of MI2CA: Pours a clear copper bronze with a thin ring of white head. Aroma has a nice sweet caramel and light fruity character. Body starts with a good sweet caramel maltiness and nice light strawberry fruitiness. Well-balanced and flavorful. Seems to have aged fairly well.

Orange zest, yeast, honey and alcohol in the aroma. Cloudy orange and brown in appearance. Medium to full palate. Caramel malt, orange and other fruits make up the majority of the tastes. Slightly bitter in the end.
