Commercial Description:
Translation from website: "A beer with a strong, and obvious sweetness. Drink it now, or why not save it a couple of years? It will only improve with time."

This classic hearty ale started out a gold medal winner in the Swedish Homebrewing Championships in 1993, and went on to win gold in the World Beer Cup in 2000. A little something to see you through the longest darkest night.

Bottle. Head was small, cocky and white which quickly diminished. Body wad flat like and ruby in colour. Aroma was heavy malt with notes of rye bread, molasses, nutty, fruit, brown sugar and some notes of hops. Full bodied with a slightly alcoholic texture and a flat carbonation. Flavour was heavy sweet with balancing bitterness. Finish sweet and duration average.

12 oz bottle via oh6gdx (thanks!). This one pours a hazy amber with a tiny head. Nose is fruity and alcoholic. This is a balanced barleywine. It starts with some sweet molasses, then some prickly fizzy orange/plums/berries, and ends with a bit of earthy hoppiness. Well carbonated. Medium body. One of the better barleywines i have had. Not outstanding, but easy to knock one back and enjoy.

0,33 l bottle. Red to amber color with diminishing head. Strong aroma of candy, caramel and toffee along with strawberry, raspberry and alcohol. More caramel, toffee and chewy malt in the flavor. Berryish esters and alcohols in the finish. Not my style of beer.

330ml bottle (bb. May 2011) from Systembolaget. Pours a deep brown coloured body and a small ring of white foam. Strong vinous and sherry character in both smell and taste. A lots of dried and dark fruits in the flavour with an oaky touch. Velvet palate. Yeasty ending supported by warming alcohol. A great version of the style, but gets a bit too sweet. Only one bottle now and then (01.12.2006).

Bottle and served in my GL snifter: Pours a early sunset hue of orange, gold, and red with almost no head or lace, but there is some oily fingers on the glassware. The nose displays a heavy rich caramel and toffee character reminding me of the better British Barley Wines with additional esters of plum and raisin, bakers sugar, some grassy and peppery vapours as well. The flavor profile starts sticky sweet with lots of sugary components and bready malts overtones supported by a richly balanced fruit twang. The alcohol while not dominate does a fair job on cutting through the sweetness and there is just a light touch of bitterness on the finish. Sticky and soft styled but the body seemed a tad thinner than expected. A bit vinous and olde, seems to be ready for drinking now and not much more aging required. (Best by 2010 according to the bottle) THX Eric

Tasting at goldtwins 9/20/06 - thanks MrWalker - 2005 vintage - Aroma is sweet cherry, raisiin, subtle hops, and bready malt. Pours transparent brown with a small head and good lacing. Flavor is a syrupy match to aroma. Palate is sticky and sweet. A nice BW that hides the alcohol well.

Big thanks to MI2CA for this treat. Poured a clear dark goldent color with a thin off-white head. Thick sweet aroma. Notes of sugar, dried apples and golden raisins. Thick malty flavor seems to have some nice aged characteristics with notes of old (not spoiled) fruit. Pretty warming.
