Bottle from Knightly Spirits. Pours amber/orange with a rim of white froth and more bubbles than expected for the style. Obvious honey and syrupy apples dominate the aroma. Upon the first sip, the sweetness from the malts are apparent but not cloying. Flavors include more honey, malts, light fruits, raisins, oats, and caramel. The carbonation and full body are surprisingly balanced. An overall pleasant barleywine.

Dec 16, 2009 THOUGHTS: Nice. I think it is really difficult to make a bad barley wine. Nothing to memorable, though. It was a little hot, but had tons of potential and after some aging might be incredible.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium to dark, orangey amber with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy caramel malt, light grain, light orange and lemon citrus hops; brown sugar, peaches, apricot, vanilla, alcohol and slight barley wine smell. The initial flavor was sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was very sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic and ever so slightly sour with an average duration. It was nice but a little watered down. There was fruit, apricot, peach, brown sugar, caramel malt, light hops that were covered up by some alcohol, and that barley wine taste and some grain. The medium body was fairly oily and then a little dry with fairly soft, but a bit tingly carbonation and a light to moderate alcoholic finish.

Dec 10, 2009 20091210 11.2 oz bottle from State Line. Clear, pale amber, with small, fleeting white head. Was disappointed to see that this barley wine appears to be heavily filtered. Aroma is pretty straightforward maltiness, sweet but mild stone fruit, honey, with some light alcohol. Body is light and thin for a barley wine with a mild alcoholic heat that lingers. No bitterness. Flavor is equally meek, mostly sweet, bland, thin, with some fresh plum and late yeasty earthiness.

Dec 9, 2009 330ml bottle. Strongly sweet malty aroma, toasty and honeyish with lighter notes of caramel, floral, spicy hops, alcohol and touches of tobacco, dried apricot and golden raisin. Attractive medium golden amber color with a very slight head and some fine lacing. Flavor is predominantly malty as well, with honey, brown sugar, a certain spicy, herbal bitterness, peppery alcohol and touches of fruit and dried flowers in the background. Nicely balanced for all of the focus put on the malts here. Warming, active mouthfeel, body is rich and full. Interesting and flavorful, overall.

Nov 14, 2009 9th June 2008. Unusual barleywine in as much as it doesn’t wrestle you to teh ground. Low carbonation. Sweetish smooth malt. I felt like I was drinking a strong bock more than a barleywine. Very drinkable.

Nov 8, 2009 Thought it smelled of straw or some type of grain. Powerful brew. Definitely hints of grape in the taste.. Nothing exceptional. Different than barely wines I’ve had before.

Nov 1, 2009 Amber colorued beer with small white hea and medium carbonation. Malty aroma. Full creamy palate. Finish is malty roasted ending bitter.
