Nose is big coffee, huge in fact. Taste has lots of coffee, a big strong punch of flavor even though the abv is relatively low. Quite a nice coffee stout. kappldav123 (1863), Markkleeberg, Germany
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 30, 2009 The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Deep black, small brown head. Aroma of a good Imperial Stout. Starts malty-strong, modest dry. Notes of liquorice and coffee follow, not too intense. Also notes of plum. Finish is a little bit sourish, but well balanced. Really good! Big thanks to Todeon for the bottle! EithCubes (2151), Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 7, 2009 Bottle. Big roasted coffee nose, carbon-heavy ash with very strong chocolate malt and light hops. Body is pitch black with a creamy light brown head. Watery body with a big creamy foam on top, more acidic than most stouts and fairly dry, but it just seems hollow, there’s a big hole in the middle of the flavor. Nice little grainy texture, no big alcohol. I do like the coffee they used. Charred, burnt wood and medium bitterness (probably only light but enhanced but the dryness). Enjoyed but at 3.58 this is overrated. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 3, 2009 Bottle and served in my Bells snifter: Jet black with a fading frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of coffee, charred and chocolate malts, light grassy hops, hint of pipe tobacco, and prune esters. The taste is acidic fruit and coffee over a layer of sweet malts. Charred and burnt finish with a hit of hop bitters. Actually somewhat disappointing, then add the thin ashy body and I was left bummed out. A big tease is all this is.
