| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2009 Pours a dark sable-brown, almost opaque, with a thick and fairly persistent pale tan head. Aroma is rich and smoky with a strong overtone of fine roast coffee and hints of toffee and chocolate. Flavor fills the mouth with fine coffee that has a firm tone of unsweetened chocolate and hints of toffee and caramel with a good smoky overtone. Flavor is thick, smooth as glass, and just a little fizzy. Satisfying. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 14, 2009 The body is dark black with some garnet edges. A 1" frothy tan head that faded pretty quickly. Aroma is mocha/espresso and dark chocolate, though coffee obviously is predominant. Flavor has a nice coffee flavor which blends well with the dark chocolate which turns into a bitter walnut-like finish. A bit of black patent shows up but not in gross amounts. Very nice stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2009 11.2oz bottle from State Line. Nice dark pour, with a slight reddish hue to it and a fairly modest head. Not quite as thick and creamy as I’d like for the style, but the palate is still enjoyable. Deep and chocolatey roast rather than char in this one, and it suits the relatively modest properties of the beer. Slight dark fruit notes come through amidst the sweeter flavors and complements the somewhat light body too. Enjoyable but not a top-tier coffee stout. badgerben (3600), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2009 Nearly black color (a little dark ruby on the edges) with a thin head. Moderate coffee aroma. Light coffee taste, and definitely a lighter roast. A bit of roasted malt, a touch of light cocoa and an oddly bitter finish. However once it warmed up to near cellar or room temp, it turned quite sweet. Not nearly as much coffee as most other coffee stouts, but solid. ChainGangGuy (2568), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2009 Appearance: Pours a foreseeable black body with a full finger of beige froth.
Smell: Aroma of robust, roasted grains, baker’s chocolate, meager dried fruit hints, all interwoven with modest cold extraction coffee accents.
Taste: Roasty, dark maltiness coupled with a guzzle of cold, black coffee and smoothed out with a subtle sweetness. A few chunks of unsweetened chocolate. Eventually, a slight charry quality enters the picture. Touch of dark fruitiness. Moderate amount of roasty bitterness midway. Tiny blip of acidity. Then, it’s a return to the general coffee flavor until you reach the drying, roasty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Above average! A generally likable coffee stout, it’s not nearly as bold or overwhelming as some, but it still hits the spot. Cornfield (4946), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 25, 2009 Bottle, shared by akevitt. Pours a clear, red-hued black body with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and a hint of cocoa. Flavor is more of the same with more of an espresso character. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, although not watery. This is one of the better coffee beers I’ve had, as the coffee flavor is not overpowering. Very drinkable.
