Commercial Description:

Bottle, shared by akevitt. Pours a clear, red-hued black body with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and a hint of cocoa. Flavor is more of the same with more of an espresso character. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, although not watery. This is one of the better coffee beers I’ve had, as the coffee flavor is not overpowering. Very drinkable.

This beer smells like a really pungent aged cheese. Thankfully that smell dies down as the head fades. It tastes much better, a really dark malty bitter coffee. Medium body. The carbonation, and a slight hint of alcohol gives it balance. That cheese smell though is lingering in my mouth and I don’t like it.

Dark brown with almost no head. Sweet malty aroma. Roasted coffee taste with an oat flavor to the finish.

11.2 oz bottle, via State Line Liquors. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy brown head that faded to a wispy film quickly. Roasty and chocolaty nose with a nice strong coffee quality. The flavor has a nice balance between the coffee and roast up front, but the finish is a bit burnt and astringent. Notes of dark chocolate and a slight grainy nuttiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a bit too much fizzy carbonation, a little clingy on the finish. A decent beer overall, but I could do without such a heavy burnt malt component.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a little bit of a tan head and aromas of roasted malt and coffee. Aromas are a little bit flat and overly roasted. Flavor is a great mix of stout and coffee, but comes off a bit thin and unconvincing. A little bit of a creamy finish.

Black body with a brown sugar colored head. Sweet chocolate chip pancakes and coffee up front with some rich notes of caramel. there The taste has some strong coffee roast and also a little bit of walnuts. There is a cocoa note, but it is light. The body is smooth and has low carbonation in a pleasant way. Good brew and one of the best coffee beers I have tried as it actually has some balance, it isn’t dominated by the coffee.

Bottle pours a dark brown/black with a tan thin soapy head. The nose seems smoky at first, but I realize that is ash. Coffee, creamy chocolate, and sour fruit notes. Medium thin body. Flavors are watery: mocha, caramel malts, touch of chocolate and fruit that fade to a roasty bitter finish. Completely underwhelming. The ashtray is one thing but how thin the flavors are, seems silly. Not offensive, but so underpar.
