This stout had potential: I like the aroma, appearance, and palate, but severely lacking in the taste department. I understand not every stout has to have a in-your-face body, but I needed more from this--especially from a espresso / coffee stout. Yes, I can taste the espresso, but it is distant and vapid. I know my coffee stouts and this has the potential to be so much more. Nice aftertaste, but aforementioned flaws keep this stout from a higher rating.

Pours deep brown with a lovely, staying, big, creamy, beige head. Just like the head on a good cappucino. Lovely sweet aroma, some cocoa, dark chocolate and some light coffee. A bit of dark fruit and milk. Low prickly carbonation, fine dry and grainy mouthfeel. Flavour is lovely coffee-ish. Grainy, some acidity, light citric. Dark chocolate. Long, lingering, coffee bitterness. ucusty (1887), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with an average, fizzy light brown head, mostly diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, toasted grain, coffee), light hop (herbs), average yeast (leather, leaves) with notes of plum, wood, and charcoal. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. gyllenbock (283), Stockholm, Sweden
