| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 26, 2006 Bottle from Engelsmann, Best Before Oct 2006, drunk on 9/30/06. A very deep pencil-yellow combines with a healthy copper-maize hue to create quite a colorful body. Thin, but creamy white head is retained, precariously at cover, and leaves wisps of lacing down the glass as it recedes. Medium-sized bubbles rise aggressively at first, but soon quiet down. Clarity is medium-high to high. Sweet honey and chewy graham crackers in the nose rise up, almost on par (in strength) with the saazy dryness that emanates forth as well. Clean and well-lagered, but the malt produces an near-caramel-like character that seems much overdone, when I would think the hops should be doing most of the talking. Still, a snappy yeast is not lost, picking at the malts as the hops slowly fade in to a dry, leafy, almost herbal-like afterthought. Settles out to some light dough and honey, upon warming. Very sweet up front. Like dropping a glob of honey in your mouth. The palate is recovering from that the rest of the way, locking on to some light hops and dry yeast crispness, but not enough, in my opinion. A bit loose in texture, thanks to the very low carbonation, which also does not help with the sweetness. But there is some bitterness, the more I drink, just nothing to match the malt. Still, attenuation/carbonation issues aside, it’s a delightfully clean, well-brewed lager that just takes a little getting used to. With their wonderful mashing/extraction techniques, I think these guys are a little bit better accustomed to producing sweeter beers, but still, this is nothing to shake a fist at. No alcohol noted in flavor or aroma. fonefan (11640), VestJylland, Denmark
