Commercial Description:
Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is a dark beer with great power and complexity. It is topfermented with yeast from Belgium. We have used six kinds of malt and the hops Pacific Gem from New Zealand. The smell is roasted and soft with hints of licorice and blackcurrants. The flavor is warm and full with a complex charachter. Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is excellent for glazed ribs, game meat, mature cheese, nuts and bitter chocolate, but can also be enjoyed on its own majesty.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden amber with a tan and lacing head. Chocolate and roasted caramel malty aroma with a mild spice note. Flavour is caramel malt, distinct roasted note and with a smooth chocolate flavour. Ends with a lingering spice note swept in smooth chocolate flavour.

Bottle courtesy of thewolf: Poured a clear dark brown/burgundy color ale with an average size foamy head with average retention and no lacing. Aroma of smoky malt with some sweet notes is definitely weird and not what I was expecting. Taste is also dominated by weird smoky notes with some typical Belgian malt notes which didn’t mix very well with the smoke. Medium body with some average carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Weird experiment that I wouldn’t necessarily want to try again.

Loads of coffee in this one. Almost feels as if the brewers have added some instant coffee powder before bottleing or something. Otherwise a lot of roasted malt comes through in the nose, taste is also that of burnt toast. Suprising this year.

Red/brown mahogany with a huge, nice and creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, dark fruit, prunes among others, berries, licorice and some coffe - yummi - and oh, also a hint of smoke. The flavour is full and complex, it has notes of roasted malt, licorice, berries, dark fruits, caramel, some coffee, hints of smoke and Christmas nuts. The sweetness in suitable and the bitterness low. It’s really nice, and makes me think of the "black" beers...

Bottle, 8.0%. Yeasty, creamy, roasted aroma. Quite sweet flavour, distinctly roasted with coffee aftertaste. Too sweet to be balanced. Very dark brown colour, very small creamy tan head. Distinct coffee aftertaste.
