Commercial Description:
Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is a dark beer with great power and complexity. It is topfermented with yeast from Belgium. We have used six kinds of malt and the hops Pacific Gem from New Zealand. The smell is roasted and soft with hints of licorice and blackcurrants. The flavor is warm and full with a complex charachter. Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is excellent for glazed ribs, game meat, mature cheese, nuts and bitter chocolate, but can also be enjoyed on its own majesty.

Aroma carries carbonation along with the coffee and cola(?!). Needs to warm for the flavours to show. Then it’s smoke, coffee and chocolate with some nuttiness. Nicely flavourful yet thin on the palate.

Bottle 33 cl. Average thick creamy head that mostly lasted. Clear flat looking body with a mahogany color. Fair display of lacework. Aroma of dusty grain, lovely bread, prunes, date, toffee, toasted malt and a hint of floral notes as well. Also notes of chocolate and liquorish can be found in the sniff. Over the palate a hint of smoke, liquorish and almost coffee like notes as well. I can even pick up the feel of the blackcurrant. Nicely round and yet full bodied with an average carbonation and somewhat thick texture. Moderated sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Finish off with a light sweet coffee and smoked and roasted feel that lingers. Excellent and almost like a porter I would say.

courtesy of Per - dark ruby-brown colour and no foam; malty aroma, toasted with cookie notes; mocha and licorice; quite sweet and with a low carbonation; fair malt body with a long aftertaste of cold coffee - one-dimensional but quite good

Jet black with a deep brown tint. Missing head. Dark malty aroma with xmas spicies. Good amount of dark berries and dried fruit in flavour with underlying notes of yeast and alcohol. And there’s even a caramel touch to it. Good brew with Yuletide spirits (200ml draught at Bishops Arms, Vasagatan, Stockholm 25.01.2008).

[Bottle from Risky-Finn.] Wow, very nice bottle with plenty of aromas at the best temperature. Notes of brown sugar, berries, sweet spices, "black" chocolate and with a wonderful feeling in the mouth.
