Commercial Description:
Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is a dark beer with great power and complexity. It is topfermented with yeast from Belgium. We have used six kinds of malt and the hops Pacific Gem from New Zealand. The smell is roasted and soft with hints of licorice and blackcurrants. The flavor is warm and full with a complex charachter. Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is excellent for glazed ribs, game meat, mature cheese, nuts and bitter chocolate, but can also be enjoyed on its own majesty.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, warm, reddish brown with a creamy, beige head leaving some laces. Roasted, coffeeish aroma. Full body with initial sweet accents of fruit and some almonds before these burned coffee notes appear combined with some dark chocolate. The finish is soft and smooth without much bitterness. This has a fairly unusual combination of the burned malt and the fruity, Belgian yeast. Overall this to me appears mostly like a Porter. 251207

Deep amber clear colour, with a nice brown head. Roasted aroma dominated by coffee and cocoa with notes of caramel. Flavour is sweet, with a grapes, roasted malts, lots of liqourice and anise and a clear raisin edge to it.

500ml bottle. This is not a belgian strong ale. Dark brown, thin head. Very sweet roasty malt aroma. Not enough to prepare you for the massively treacly roasty taste. A bit sticky, OK for sipping, but you’d catch diabetes from drinking 2 of these. The commercial description is wrong - it should Nils Oscar Julöl is excellent for _glazing_ ribs. Pretty tasty, but the tasty roasted malt is its one trick.

I found this Yulebeer a bit bitter with a coffeee taste. I don’t think I will repeat the experience.

Bottle. Amber colour with copper hue. Decent off-white head. Sweet malts, dried fruits and caramel in both aroma and flavor. Average finish. Quite perfumed beer.

Bottled. Quite dark, looks a bit like "julmust". Almost no head, it disappears very quickly. Aroma of dark sugar, mocca, roasted nuts. Taste even more coffee. I feel some liqurice, but there’s something enticing with this one. Not a perfect beer, but I want more.

50 cl Bottle. Reddish dark brown colour with a little beige head. Aroma of roastedness, chocolate and hints of dried fuit. Little sweet flavour with notes of coffee, licorice and some yeast like. Nothing overwelming at all.
