Commercial Description:
Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is a dark beer with great power and complexity. It is topfermented with yeast from Belgium. We have used six kinds of malt and the hops Pacific Gem from New Zealand. The smell is roasted and soft with hints of licorice and blackcurrants. The flavor is warm and full with a complex charachter. Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is excellent for glazed ribs, game meat, mature cheese, nuts and bitter chocolate, but can also be enjoyed on its own majesty.

Bottle. Brown colour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and sweet chewing gum. Taste of rubber with a slightly burnt note. Pricey...

(Bottled) Dark, clear cola brown with a very small, instantly fading and lemonadey head. Lots of sugary coffee, burned-roasty malt, and some salty licorice in the aroma, along with some Xmas spices. Burned-roasty-malty, sweetish flavor with some dried fruit and salty licorice, but dominating burned maltiness. Medium-bodied, low to medium-carbonated palate with pretty thin mouthfeel. This one certainly needs cellaring, but I’m not sure if the color malt will smooth out there or not. Pretty thin and weak when fresh, anyway.

Slightly foaming, the head disappear immediately. The color is dark brown. There is hardly any carbonation, but a strong smell of alcohol and sweet dry fruit, like raisins or dates. There is a lots of caramel and bitter sweetness, but the alcohol content is a bit too apparent for a really high score. Goes well with sturdy food, or on its own by the fire.

Aroma: interesting, roasted nuts, malt, some sourish and caramel notes, roasted coffee... funky... slightly smoky. Some slight dried fruit notes, spicy...
Appearance: dark red brown, clear w/ yellowish thin & bubbly head.
Flavour: sweet, strange, seville orange. Strange but appealing bitterness of roasted malt & bitter hops... Sourish aftertaste. Slightly of alcohol. Too watery. Some spicyness.
Palate: bit slimy but thin. Strange. Not that much carbonation.

Bottle at home shared with Mette - bought at SuperBrugsen in Vallensbæk. Clear red/brown - fluffy light brown head. Licorice, berries, light roasted, sweetness, light yeasty, light light cucumber, chokolate, spicy, medium carbonated. OK - light alcho-burn-warming finish !!

Bottle. Bought @ SuperBrugsen, Bramdrupdam. Pours a deep brownish red with a very weak fizzy off white head that completely disappears. Aroma is malty, slightly roasted and a bit of smoke. There is anise and cardemum in there as well. Relatively weak carbonation, making it feel nice and oily. Flavour is sweet, with a grapes, roasted malts, lots of liqourice and anise and a clear raisin edge to it. Finish is relatively bitter, but more from coffee and roasted malts than actually hops. Very nice, and it should mellow nicely in the cellar.
