Commercial Description:
This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Pours a crystal clear amber red body with a large frothy head that fades fast. Aroma is fruity of grapes. Flavor is mostly of floraly hops and has i bitter aftertaste. Palaite is thin and little oily.

Bronzered. Nice white head. Fruity, some smoke, whiskylike, very well balanced!

Darker than your usual vianne, but still in the category. Sweet creamy aroma of vanilla and soft butter caramel. Flavor is complex and well balanced. The sweet sof creamy notes are backed up by a nice hob profile that leads to a bitter finish and a grassy aftertaste. There is a faint tought of toasted bread throughout the beer aswell, which only adds to the overall good impression.

A bit skunked and slightly oxidized. The head struggled to have any life to it. Light toffee notes with a mild, and a bit off, hop profile. Would’ve liked to have seen a deeper malt backbone to this one. Not impressed, but would be curious as to what a fresh bottle was intended to taste like.

Bottled. Poured translucent copper with a short cap of white head. Aroma was of sweet, tangy lighter fruits, toasted caramel, and some earthy notes.. sweet candy prevails as it warms up. Flavor was primarily of very sweet, candied caramel with sticky earthy bitterness and some mild oxidized notes. Lighter-bodied with some sharp notes at the edges and a mild bitterness. OK stuff.

[On tap at The Rover in Gothenburg, Sweden] Golden color, large off-white head, decent roast. First beer of this style I have had, but pretty smooth and a beer that I would have again.

A Sim rate (bottle from Sweden): Sweet aroma of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. And ooh Creme Brulee, freshly torched. Amber copper colour with no head. Flavour is similar to the aroma with a crisp brown sugar finish. Regretting we only brought one of these home.
