Commercial Description:
This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Golden with a nice head and a nice hoppy aroma. The flavour is full and smooth with lots of aroma hops, caramel, light sweetness. It’s really nice, and I think it’s more an APA than a märzen.

Slight hazy, golden brown with a fine white head. Citrus, malt, spice caramel and slight toasted. A sweet maltyness is very nicely balnced with a hint of bitterness. Very pleasent.

(Draught at Man in the Moon, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with ruby notes, foamy off-white head. Malty, nutty, slightly roasted nose with notes of toffee, caramel and citrussy hops. Slightly roasted, nutty taste with toffee, caramel, chocolate and citrussy hops in the finish. Nice hoppy bitterness balances the nutty malt quite brilliantly. To put it short in Swedish: kalas!

0.33 l bottle. Amber color with good head retention. Sweetish, caramelly and slightly toasty aroma. Caramelly, woody, piney, biscuity and toasty flavor.

(Bottle) Pours dark amber. Roasted aroma with soapy, fruity and honey flowery hops. Hints of coffee and cocoa probably from the roastyness. Malt and grain lingering in the back ground. Roasted nuts and caramel. Good bitter grapefruity bite in flavour with a backdrop of chocolate. Medium mouthfeel and body - a good one.

Bottle, DBF 2005. Amber bronze, thin white head and gentle condition. Low honey sweet grain and pleasant hoppiness in the nose, solid sweet graininess in the mouth and some returning hop to counter the sweetness in the finish.

Dark amber coloured with great clarity and a low off-white head. Aromatic hops and a rounded hoppy taste with some roasted barley giving the beer a smoked character. Short, dry ending. Medium palate. Very drinkable (330ml bottle from Systembolaget,02.12.2006).

Bottled, Svenska Dagar, Pikkulintu, Finland. Not much aroma at all, slightly salty and sour. Quite dark red-brown colour with a small white head. Taste of some malt. Harsh, bitter finish.
