Commercial Description:
This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

330 ml bottle. Brilliantly clear light reddish brown colour. Average-sized off-white head. Dry, ambient nutty malt aroma. Distant roasted notes. A little crispness at first, then a lightly roasted malts flavour. Smooth texture, except perhaps for a dryish finish. Nutty. A little grassy hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

Very hoppy aroma with caramel malts. Slightly hazy, brown coloured with a lasting off-white head. Taste is sweet and more bitter towards the finish. Caramel malts and strong hops in it. Fruiity tones. Bit dry. Not bad.

(Bottle BB 10/2006) Fruity, hoppy, slightly roasted and slightly caramel aroma. Red brown colour, bright but some very small particles, slightly sparkling and average size, white, more or less fully diminishing head with fair lacing. Caramel, roasted malty, slightly bitter and fruity (citrus) flavour. Softly carbonated and medium-bodied palate. Good, well balanced beer! 21/08/06

Clear light copper in colour with a small bubbly off-white head. Spicy hop nose with plenty of caramel. The body is quite dry and bitter, with some metallic bitterness also coming through in the finish. Its not an overly interesting beer, but has good balance and a full body. Expected more considereing the premium that Nils put on their beers.
