Commercial Description:
This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Great beer! Initial flavour is roasty and sweet (with malts and hints of smoke). Lovely dry and bitter finish.

As always with Nils Oscar, this is a good beer. Deep colour. Distinct bitterness but definitely malt dominated. Perhaps a little too sweet for my liking, but I believe that’s a feature of the style, not an imbalance in this beer.

Bottle. Pours a darker amber with slight head. Scents of fruit and bread on the nose. Brew is malty, with roasted notes and some raisin overtones. Some bittering and light hopping. It was OK, but nothing special. Bottle courtesy of Marciblursi.

Bottle. Dark golden in colour with a small light brown head. Nice bitterness. Hoppy with notes of caramel and also a bit grassy.

Dark amber colored, little light brown head. Aroma is rich with hops, bitterness, caramel and grass. Medium bodied. Flavor is dry with hops and mild citrus tones, aftertaste lasts with dryness. Clean but not very complex brew.

Bottled. Dark golden in colour with a minor white head. A malty aroma. The flavour is bitter with juniper berries. It has a dry and bitter aftertaste.

Bready malty taste. Quite long taste, full body. Quite hoppy and bitter in the taste. Like it.

Draught at The Rover in Gothenburg.
Even better taste than the bottle. Dark amber to brown color, beige-brown lasting creamy head. Fruity scent and taste. Quite big bitterness, but it fits and is balanced well.
Once more though, I like the draught one well better than the bottles I’ve had.
