Nisse666 (313), Göteborg, Sweden Oct 25, 2009 Bottle, 2009-04-23, why smoky - this one is only smok do body and no other flavors! (2007) jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands Oct 20, 2009 Bottle@Home. Nice simple but smoked and flavourful porter. Not overwhelming, not in body nor power or complexity. But very well balanced and highly drinkable. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 16, 2009 In short: A sweet roasted fruity porter. Generic but rather pleasant.
How: Bottle 500ml. Consumed relatively fresh, almost 4 years (!?!?!) before expiration date
The look: Almost black body topped by very small beige head
In long: Nose is medium-high roasted with strong notes of molasses. Taste is rather fruity. Lots of roastiness but also lots of raisins and dates. A crunch cookie/pie crust sweetness what when joined with the raisins and dates makes the beer taste somewhere between a burnt date cookie and a burnt raisin pie. Characterless leafy hops that do not contribute much to the flavour profile. A simple fruity porter, however this is supposed to be a Smoked Porter and this beer is about as smoked as the Dalai Lama in a peace gathering lecture. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 9, 2009 Bottled. Poured healthy medium brown with a creamy, well-retained cap of yellowy-tan head. The aroma picked up a sweet, lighter, brighter smoky impression upfront backed by vanilla and milk chocolates.. a bit of smoked, salty meat on the back. The flavor opened with sweet chocolates and tangy, but still sweet smoke.. tasty ~70% cocoa and a pinch of earth at the core with burnt black patent.. finished with more bright smoked malt, sour oak, and a bit more chocolate. Medium-bodied and dry on the palate from carbonation and the oak/smoke.. left a grainy impression with delightful smoked malt long after the finish. Very, very tasty. zeke626 (301), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 9, 2009 Bottle, thanks to akevitt for sharing. Pours an almost opaque black body with red hue and tan foam head. Aroma of chocolate malts and light smoked bacon. Flavor is initially sweet with the chocolate, then becomes smoky with the toasted malts. Finishes with a dry cocoa flavor. Medium bodied with a slightly watery mouthfeel. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2009 500ml. pours a very dark black color with a one finger high sandy brown cap. nice smokey char on the nose is reminiscent of smoked meat, tobacco, and whiskey cask, while sweet chocolate lingers behind it all. very dry on the palate. not as sweet as it smells. i was surprised, and maybe a little let down. i would not have minded some sweetness in this beer. palate is also a touch too thin, but this is only a porter. carbonation is mildly high, and overall this is a satisfying brew. you could say this is too one dimensional, but i find it ti be rare that a smoked brew displays much depth, in part because the smoke can be quite strong. such is the case with this one. baggio (195), norrtälje, Sweden Aug 28, 2009 Bottle@home - 2007 vintage
Apperance: Dark brown with a creamy beige lace.
Aroma: Caramel, Peat, Bacon, Roasted Grain.
Flavor: Smoke, Smoked meat, Bouillion, Caramel, Licorice and roasted malts.
Palate: Nicely balanced with just a wee bit to thin body.
This brew hasn’t changed very much in 2 years but it’s still a very good smoked porter. With a little bit more body it would be perfect! Kestral (191), Oslo, Norway Aug 28, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Powdery cocoa, chocolate and coffee dominate the fairly sweet aroma, with notes of mildly peaty smoke, vanilla, nuts and toffee. Very nice. Flavour is nice and full, the smoke is more prevalent. Roasted and burnt notes, ash, powdery bitter chocolate and coffee, some light hops in the finish. The smoke is very well balanced, not dominating. Overall a complex and very enjoyable brew.
