Black color with dark beige head. Smokey aroma with a hint of butterscoth, licorice and a fruity sweetness. Flavor of roasted malt and burnt firewood. Actually quite light smokeyness. A dry bitter finish with an aftertaste of burnt ash. Surprisingly light bodied.

Pours a black color with a brown head. Slightly smokey aroma, but as smokey as I thought it would be. Some liquorice and roasted malt there too. Flavour is malty, notes of liquorice and roasted malt, chocolate and some smoke. It could have been more smokey though, but on the other hand I’m not a big fan of smoked sausage in my beer and this beer seems too miss that (good!). Served a bit too cold first, when it turns warmer the smoked flavours is more active and almost a bit "whiskeyish".

Update: I thin this is really decent!

Smokey tiramisu aroma although mostly sans whisky. Perhaps a touch of hops in the background there. They weren’t kidding about the smoke. The flavour is, well, smokey. Also something that reminds of whisky barrels. Bit of hops in the end. A lot more of them might pick it up a bit but as it is it’s a bit too much of a one trick pony for me.

brown head, black colour frothy foam, looks very apetizing. aroam of tar, roasted malts and smoked sausage and some dark fruit. flavour is roasted malt, tar sugar. with a bit more taste in the finish, maybe with a little more alcohol, this would have been the best porter i’ve ever had.

Bottle. Black, thin head. Aroma of smoke, tar and chocolate with some dark fruits. Taste is sweetish of roasted malts with more subtle smoke. Nice bitter finish of cream and chocolate. Body is a bit thin, might have benefited from a higher alcohol content.

A Mes rate: bottle that I bought from Peterborough Beer Festival.
Oooh I like this one. Why did I not buy some more of it when I had the chance. It was only cheap too. Anyway thanks to Tom for pointing out they had it or I would have missed it. Superb, almost black, chestnut brown colour with a very stable milky coffee coloured topping. Excellent aroma or plum, liquorice, rich roasted malt, slight pepper and a faint but superb note of smoked wood. The flavour is much the same with just a little too much dried fruit for me. It’s quote christmassy actually. The smoked character becomes a little more ashy unfortunately. Good lingering bitterness from the hops in the finish with a lengthy liquorice aftertaste. Mouthfeel is really good. I thought it was a little thin at first but it’s nicely slick and has a really good prickly feel from the hops and the smoke. Good stuff and my second highest rated Nils Oscar beer.
