Bottled. Dark brown color, medium off-white head. Aroma of smoked malt, roasted, meat, bacon. Malty taste, smoked, bit dry and bitter. It resembles a german styled smoked beer. Pretty straightforward.

Poured dark brown with very little head. No real lacing. The aroma was smoked peat, roasted malt and some faint earthy and pine hops. The flavor was smoke, roasted malts and earth. Pine hops towards the finish. Thin to medium in body. Kind of boring.

Bottle. Dark dark brown body. Pale brown medium sized head. Complex aroma of chocolate, smoke, dried fruits, burned malts. Light and almost fresh flavour of chocolate, brown sugar and rasted malt. Not particularly heavy. Light sweet finish with chocolate. An easy drinking porter. Pleasant carbonation. (Påland, 14.07.09)

21-NOV-2009, bottle @Morten. Very dark brown almost black with light brown head. Liqourice, liqour-like (port-like) with some smoke - just enough, not too much for my taste. Nice porter.

1pt .9oz bottle poured into a tulip. NOR pours Congo brown, dark and mysterious. It’s head is small and mostly just a token ring (not THAT kind of token ring you IT geeks) of bubbles. For a smoked beer I’m disappointed in the aroma. It has a slight smoky hint but most of the smell is of roasted grains. It actually smells a lot like a good stout. There is a slight touch of sweetness in the nose as well, maybe a mixture of clove and dates. It smells great but I’m knocking a lot of points off because it does not smell like a smoked beer. The taste makes up for the disappointing aroma. It has an absolutey wonderful smoke balance. The roasted grains and smokiness balance better than most beers of the style. The body is perfect for a porter, being heavy but not stout-heavy. There is a foreign stout feel to the entire package, much like Lion Stout (another fabulous beer). The finish is chewy and thick and full of goodness. This isn’t a beer that just fades away, it lingers like a psychedelic dream.

Very dark brown, almost black. Had to pour rather aggressively to generate a 2 cm beige head. The head dissipates rather quickly anyway and leaves small lacings. Smoky aromas dominate - mostly charred wood and coal, but some notes of smoked meat as well. Decent smell of roasted malts, faint vanilla, dark chocolate and spices beneath the smoke. The taste is nothing extravagant, but fairly good. Lots of burnt and smoky flavors - again mostly charred wood and coal. The notes of smoked meat is present as well, but not as prominent as in the smell. Semi-sweet porter flavors underneath, roasted malts, vanilla, faint chocolate, chocolate syrup and some notes of dark fruits. A touch of saltiness, like soy sauce. In the finish there is a faint smoke acidity, coffee, spices and hints of minerals. Medium body, slightly creamy with restrained carbonation. Quite smooth actually. Quite a good beer. The smoky character isn’t that overwhelming so it’s rather easy to drink. Nothing is really spectacular about it, but nothing seems out of place either - a well crafted brew. Recommended. Bottle, 2009-04-23, why smoky - this one is only smok do body and no other flavors! (2007)
