Pours an almost opaque black body with red hue and tan foam head. Aroma of chocolate malts and light smoked bacon. Flavor is initially sweet with the chocolate, then becomes smoky with the toasted malts. Finishes with a dry cocoa flavor. Medium bodied with a slightly watery mouthfeel.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 29, 2009 20091129 500ml bottle, State Line Darkest brown with small but lasting head of uneven beige bubbles. Aroma is surprisingly rich with deep interminglings of chocolate, leather, rum, old pipe, and moderate levels of smoke. Deeply complex and interesting aroma; one of the first beers I’ve truly lingered over in a long time. Unfortunately, the flavor doesn’t quite keep up. It’s not completely surprising given that it is a mere porter, but the flavor is more simple, though still a pleasant blend of pipe tobacco, very dry roasted malt, light chocoate, and lingering smokiness. It’s about the pleasant flavor profile I would expect from a solid smoked porter, it just doesn’t compare to the aroma. Body is medium-light with a late astringency and slight citrus bitterness late on the palate. Lightly tart acidity and some grassy notes as well. Really nice beer I will surely buy again. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Bottled. Dark brown color, medium off-white head. Aroma of smoked malt, roasted, meat, bacon. Malty taste, smoked, bit dry and bitter. It resembles a german styled smoked beer. Pretty straightforward. skortila (2903), Bunnik, Netherlands

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Poured dark brown with very little head. No real lacing. The aroma was smoked peat, roasted malt and some faint earthy and pine hops. The flavor was smoke, roasted malts and earth. Pine hops towards the finish. Thin to medium in body. Kind of boring. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Bottle. Dark dark brown body. Pale brown medium sized head. Complex aroma of chocolate, smoke, dried fruits, burned malts. Light and almost fresh flavour of chocolate, brown sugar and rasted malt. Not particularly heavy. Light sweet finish with chocolate. An easy drinking porter. Pleasant carbonation. (Påland, 14.07.09) jesperhammer (304), Copenhagen, Denmark

Very dark brown almost black with light brown head.
Liqourice, liqour-like (port-like) with some smoke - just enough, not too much for my taste.
Nice porter. MrRain (429), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2009 1pt .9oz bottle poured into a tulip. NOR pours Congo brown, dark and mysterious. It’s head is small and mostly just a token ring (not THAT kind of token ring you IT geeks) of bubbles. For a smoked beer I’m disappointed in the aroma. It has a slight smoky hint but most of the smell is of roasted grains. It actually smells a lot like a good stout. There is a slight touch of sweetness in the nose as well, maybe a mixture of clove and dates. It smells great but I’m knocking a lot of points off because it does not smell like a smoked beer. The taste makes up for the disappointing aroma. It has an absolutey wonderful smoke balance. The roasted grains and smokiness balance better than most beers of the style. The body is perfect for a porter, being heavy but not stout-heavy. There is a foreign stout feel to the entire package, much like Lion Stout (another fabulous beer). The finish is chewy and thick and full of goodness. This isn’t a beer that just fades away, it lingers like a psychedelic dream.
