Nils Oscar Saison

Good looking 75cl at Hunter’s, Pori. Deep golden, medium sized white head. Clean yeasty nose, menthol, pear, soft spices, very stylish. Flavor has spiciness, pear, mild hops, yeast, sweet pale malts, a tad coarse finish with white pepper and rust. Medium bodied, soft, not too strong carbonation. Mild but reasonably real saison.

On tap at Glenfiddich Warehouse in May 09. Beer color reminds a lot of wheat beer, cloudy yellow. Fairly large solid foam that remains long, it looks really inviting. The aroma very spicy with hints of malt and fruit. White pepper and orange were the most dominant, there were also some hints of yeast and bread in the background. The taste was dominated by pepper and fruitiness, especially orange. A slight acidity, the body was light and carbon dioxide content is rather high. No bitterness. Quite refreshing.

Draught (Stockholm Beer Festival 2009) - Amber in colour. Fruity aroma with prach and passion fruit, Spicy and fruity taste with spicy malt, peach and caramel.

(Draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse 68, Stockholm, 20 Sep 2009) Cloudy orange colour with lasting, frothy, off-white head. Fruity, spicy nose with apricots, orange peel and spicy hops. Fruity, malty taste with orange peel, dried apricots and spicy hops in the finish. A touch of yeast. Above medium body, some sweetness throughout. Nice and spicy saison.

Unclear medium orange color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate yeasty, spicy, fruity. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090612]

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Cloudy deep blond color, no head. Spicy Belgian styled ale, with poor aroma, good body, some malt flavor, herbal, with a touch of rosemary, wax, quite strong bitterness. Not bad, but a bit strange.

Bottled:
Pours deep golden with a slight haze. Head is small. Sweet and wheaty aroma with notes of bubblegum. Flavour is wheaty and has notes of white pepper and thyme. Finish is dryish with some notes of alcohol.

Bottled (Beer Hunters, BB 05/2011). Hazy orange color, small off-white head. Fuity-yeasty peppery nose. Fruity (peaches), wheaty and peppery flavor. Crisp refreshing carbonation. Medium-bodied. Stylish saison.
