| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 30, 2007 Bottled. A pitch black beer with next to no head. The aroma is very roasted combined with notes of oatmeal, malt, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt, as well as notes of hard roasted coffee, dark bitter chocolate, oatmeal, and a bit of oranges. The end is dry and quite roasted. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 29, 2007 Black pour with a dark tan ring. Aroma is delicious rich chocolate and coffee. The oatmeal smooths the aroma out, and makes me want to dive into this beer. The flavor is creamy dark chocolate and just a bite of hops in the finish. The body is silky smooth and infinitely quaffable. Fantastic. Hildigöltur (5109), København, Denmark
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 29, 2007 Bottled. Very dark brown coloured. Loads of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and some hops in the aroma. Surprisingly light flavour considering the nice aroma. Again some coffee and roasted malts. Light fruitiness as well. Medium bodied. dhlesq (233), Thousand Oaks, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2007 Aroma of roast coffee with underlying floral hops. Appears an opaque dark-brown-black color with a creamy tan head. Flavor is roasty and a tad burnt, with appropriate residual sweetness, but little to no oatmeal presence. Palate is smooth, creamy and very soft. Overall, a very good sweet stout, and a bit more than the sum of its parts. Hairofthedog (419), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 14, 2007 The aroma was full of coffee, roast, smoke, and a hint of oatmeal. The beer poured an opaque color with thin lasting head and lacing. The flavor had coffee, roast, smoke, and light oatmeal notes. The roast was really prevelent. The mouthfeel was medium to full, a little thin for me, and decent carbonation. after4ever (2809), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jan 3, 2007 12-oz. Pours a deep, not-wuite jet black with a humongous, thick, moussy tan head. Float a quarter on the head? More like bounce one off it! Sticky rings of lace follow the head down the sides of the glass. It’s almost like watching someone put on an oatmeal turtleneck. Mild nose of dust and chocolate, maybe a hint of toast. Bold attack, though not overpowering: medium body, active carb, rich flavor. The mid-palate’s all full of roast, even char, plenty of chocolate and coffee and a bit of smoke. Once you get past a few dozen stouts, there’s not usually a new flavor note to discover, but the balance and proportion is always a revelation, and this one’s right where it needs to be. Only real problem is the finish, which just kind of gives up instead of hanging around--all you get is a little sticky coffee and peppery/piney hop. Good stuff, nearly a true great. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2006 12oz bottle poured black with a nice brown head. The aroma was rich with oats, chocolate and roast. The taste was slightly bitter at first then rounds out with a big palate. Overall a nice rich oatmeal stout more than a sweet stout. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 7, 2006 12 oz Bottle from Mystery swap via FlacoAlto (thanks!). Pours a thick black with a small tan head. Thick like an Imp Stout as oppsed to just a Stout. Nose is a pure wonderful Mocha aroma. I can detect lots of vanilla, some chocolate, espresso, and perhaps even some honey. I must say this is the best smelling beer i have ever held. The taste does not quite hold up though. It is a more straightfoward roasted black patent malt flavor, with everything else in the background...a bit of chocolate, nuttiness and coffee do come through a little. High carbonation. Medium body. Fizzy mouthfeel. Pretty good, just was hoping for more after the divine aroma!
