Nov 5, 2009 Bottled. Darkish brown, murky pour, with a touch of head. Full, nutty, grainy aroma, with a an earthy flavor finishing in a touch of tart and brown sugar. Very clean and true to style. Easily quaffable, despite its high alcohol content.

Oct 10, 2009 12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with Sparky27. Pours a hazy orange-gold with a large fluffy tan head that lasted through most of the glass and left partial lace. The aroma is weak crystal malt and not much else. The flavor is mostly crystal malt with some brown sugar and a touch of orange. Mediocre.

Aug 22, 2009 Dark copper pour with a small eggshelll head that left just a spot of lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, smoke, and cocoa. Surprisingly, chocolate finds its way to the palate along with caramel and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel. Best of the bunch.

Jun 24, 2009 From Sparky27 via trade. Brownish copper and clear on the pour. A short, off-white head appeared as did spotty lacing. The aroma was a bit of dark fruit, lightly roasted and smoky malts and some thin chocolate. The flavor was roasted malts, light chocolate and a bit of alcohol. Thin mouthfeel with a touch of alcohol heat. Simple and to the point, but well done.

Jun 21, 2009 Poured a dark ruby with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma is plums, piney hops, a touch of caramel sweetness. Flavor is somewhat thin dark fruits, stale hops and metallic toffee. With chewier malts and American hops, I’d probably like this a lot more. But then it would probably be an ASA instead of an ESA, and it’s no coincidence that I like the former more than the latter. Still not a bad attempt.

Jun 20, 2009 Found this in a gift shop on main St. Sedona that had a small beer section off to the side. Poured a cloudy amber-brown with a medium creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet, with nuts and chocolate. Flavor is also lightly sweet, with some spiciness. A good brew.

Jun 17, 2009 Many thanks to Ron for bringing back a quality beer to share from his trip out west. Cloudy amber appearance. German swarz-bier like stuff. Some malt, chocolate, hops, apples, roasted flavors all in the palate. Aroma is subtle, mostly malty and doughy. Good.
