Commercial Description:
Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. We're so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. It's a winner!

12 oz bottle given to me by a friend. He really likes this brew, so he gave me a couple of bottles. Thanks Kelan. Pours relatively clear dark brown with a half finger light tan head. The aroma is quite malty with some fruit in there for good measure. The taste is very intriguing it is both sweet and malty with some hops in there as well. This is really pretty yummy. This is fien beer with a lot of character. It is also gets a bit syrupy towards the bottom of the glass

Something of a dark malt aroma with dark fruit. Clear dark brown color with orange hilites. A beige head that didn’t really stay. Starts full mouthfeel, dark brown sweet, followed by hop. It’s sweet, but not sticky. The hop arguably balances the malt, and the finish is relatively dry and lightly bitter. The sweet is kind of earthy, not candy.

Bottle: Dark brown, coppery tint, large fluffy light beige head, clumpy lacing, light carbonation.   Nose of brown sugar, apple and pear skin, slight soy, biscuity, with a very slight campfire.   Tart fruity skin on the tongue, soy and brown sugar, slightly nutty, resides on the malty side.   Little to no hop profile, which is fine with me.   Moderate to full body, mouthfeel is fairly average.   Finishes with a large brown sugar apple/pear skin profile.   Not bad.

Bottle from trade with cbkschubert! Poured a reddish brown with a thin tan head that left light lacing. Sweet aromas of milk chocolate, maple syrup, and cinnamon. The flavor found coffee and milk chocolate. Medium body. Very enjoyable!

Bottle thanks to cbkschubert. Poured a cloudy brown body with thin head. Aroma is of sweet malt, caramel. Flavor is bittersweet with malt, caramel and syrupy aftertaste. Sometimes too sweet...

12 oz Bottle via cbkschubert (thanks!) Pours a semi hazy dark reddish brown with a tiny beige head. Not getting much in the nose here, perhaps some subtle chocolate malts and floral hops.Taste starts bitter, then turns to some toffee, some nuttiness and ends with some earthy hops and a semi-tart finish. may be somewhat infected and beginning to show sins of such. I have gotten several of their beers from different traders, and either they are somewhat infected or they all have a very OFF slightly sour twang for some reason...but why? This is not a bad beer, but also is not one i would care for again. So far i have been very unimpressed with Nimbus.

From notes. Pours a very murky/muddy brown, with a quarter inch off-white head that settles slowly to a soapy cap and ring. The lacing is pretty thick, but not very sticky. Smell; caramel malts and a touch of coffee up front, with a rich nutty aroma mixed in, and hints of tobacco. There’s almost no hop aroma to speak of, but I’m not surprised. Taste; very rich and nutty up front, and then fades in to a mildly tobacco flavor. The caramel is present as well as some chocolate and coffee, and finished with just a touch of bitter hops. This is a bit more robust than your average brown ale. Mouthfee/Drinkability; mouthfeel is a bit fuller thatn I’m used to for a brown, but it seems to fit this flaover profile just right, and the drinkability is pretty darn good. The only thing that would keep this from be a good session beer, for me, is the alcohol.

Bottle(8.2%) from BevMo. Dark amber on pouring with very little foam. Sweet chocolate aroma with a bit of roasted maltiness. Flavor is slightly sweet up front with some dark fruitiness. Finish is bitter and roasty with a little bit of hoppy bitter finish. Only a touch of alcohol. Not bad.
