Commercial Description:
Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. We're so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. It's a winner!

Dark, dark red with a small head. There is a floral hop aroma along with sweet malt and a touch of toffee.

Bottle from cpkschubert; Nose of dark, fruits, with a little coffee in the background; clear, dark brown with a small tan head; flavor is of coffee, chocolate, and friuty malts with a little hops in the finish. Didn’t really notice any alcohol, well covered.

Brown caramel color, light head and lacing. Nose is again, vegetal with some alcohol and fruity notes showing themselves. The flavor is fairly woody with some dry malts and splinters. Finishes with a light sherry note along with some maple and plum notes. Zug.

Bottle. Pours a fairly dark brown with a short lived tan head. Scents of dried fruit, malt, and weak coffee. Roasted flavors prevalent throughout, coffee, prunes, and sweetness with a slight bitterness in the finish. Not a big fan of coffee scented or darker roasted brews. Thanks to Flaco Alto for the bottle.

Bottle. Pours a bright copper body with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is cookie-ish with lots of caramel malt, toast, and some faint fruits. Toasty malt flavour again in a soft body with significant caramel and light chocolate.. Something a bit strange in the texture and flavour profile. The alcohol is well masked. Pretty decent.

On tap: Light malty aromas of caramel and chocolate. Dark brown with orange hilights and a small beige head with nice lacing. Flavor is a little weak with watery caramel and chocolate, hints of roasted grain, and light bitterness in the finish. Suprisingly no hints of alcohol with so little other flavors to cover it up. Not enough strong flavors for me. Rather boring.

It has got a monkey on it, it has to be good right? Ruby brown body, small tan head. Sweet fruity booze in the aroma hints at brown sugar with a very muted roast malt touch. Lightly roasty acidity dominates my flavour impression over the muted malt. It’s a touch light and a bit flat, it feels like maybe they were trying to make it cask like. Interesting but not for me today. [8%? Wow! I did not taste that at all!] Thanks for the rarity MDS!

Bottle shared with Jerc, Hogtown Harry, and MDS, Mike’s bottle. Dark ruby brown, small white head. Nice burnt sugar, dark fruit, sweet malt aroma. Decent taste - more burnt sugar, dark malt. A little watery. Some alcohol. Not bad, a new state for me.
