Commercial Description:
Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. We're so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. It's a winner!

Many thanks to Ron for bringing back a quality beer to share from his trip out west. Cloudy amber appearance. German swarz-bier like stuff. Some malt, chocolate, hops, apples, roasted flavors all in the palate. Aroma is subtle, mostly malty and doughy. Good.

Dark brown with a fluffy off white head. Toasty and caramel malts. Sweet with a little honey and bread. Hint of smoke and a nice rich body. Only so so for me.

Bottle thanks to cbkshubert. Pours a dark, hazy mahogany brown with small beige head. The aroma is toffee, cherry, pepper, light rum, and some pear. The flavor is toffee, some dry fruit notes, pepper, and quite a bit of wood. Some raisin and bitter chocolate come through periodically. The finish is dry and tannic. Decent.

Bottle, courtesy nbutler11. Dark cherry red pour, thick creamy white head and very thick lacing. Raisins and dry berries in the nose, dry fruits and some chocolate. Sticky dry raisin flavors, sharp hops, some slight roast. Interesting, not sure of the style exactly but it’s good.

Bottle thanks to Sparky27. Pours a dark red-orange bordering on brown with a thin quick off white head. Plums, currants, cherries, sweet malt, brown sugar in the aroma. Taste is very fruity malt sweetness. Like an Abbey Dubbel with the plums, currants and cherries dominating again. A lightly cloying sweetness then a finish of slightly floral hops but not bitter enough to balance.

Thanks gunhaver for the share. Pours amber with an off-white head. Nose is brown sugar, plums, lots of malt, currants, and some noticeable hops. Flavor is sweet malt, currant, brown sugar, wood, vanilla, hops, and again, plum goodness. Generally nice beer.
