| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 27, 2007 30-May-07 (12 oz bottle: Purchased 20-Apr-07 at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Sweet mandarin orange aroma is pretty unique, but it’s matched by prominent notes of tart lemon and husky grains. Quite a varied and disjoint set of aromas, I must say. Significant corn husks and some DMS on the palate as well, mild background sweetness. The only real bright spot with this beer is the pleasant, mildly bitter, citrusy hop flavor that emerges toward the finish. For the style, there is an unexpected tartness throughout, but most noticeable in the finish. Medium-bodied on the palate. Dusty, chalky, dry mouthfeel despite the modest sweetness, and carbonation is medium. Cloudy but still slightly transparent, golden body is covered by a thin, whitish cap of bubbles that gradually recede to a broken layer while leaving some spotty and stringy lacing on the glass. Okay to try once, but not nearly enjoyable enough to buy again. But it’s probably better at the source than from the bottle. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA
