22415brewery (57), redmond, Washington, USA Oct 25, 2009 This is a fine example of the somewhat recent "Double" Red Ale category. Featuring a big, bold, toasty, malty backbone that supports a tremendously copious amount of citrus hops. Well-balanced, I’ve experienced this ale on several occasions to find that once in a while it will come across as just a tad acrid. (could be old product on the shelf?).
If you enjoy straightforward malt richness balanced by a good dose of citrus hops and smooth bittering then this is for you. After half a bomber you’ll never know that it hides nearly 7% abv. After two you’ll be pretty sure it did.
Let it warm up a bit, listen to some Television, gulp it out of a tulip glass and savor the taste of Oregon. Lakes (18), post falls, Idaho, USA Oct 23, 2009 Had this at a tasting last night in Post Falls Idaho at Enoteca. 22 oz bottle.
Color was bright and clear. Nose was soft but pleasently floral. The beer was excellent. Strong malt but smooth and easy to drink. Hops were slightly tart but not over poweringly so. There wer grapefruit notes that blended well with the malt. This is beer is worth investigating further. I plan on stopping into Enoteca and having a full bottle for myself. :) acblue (50), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 20, 2009 Very deep red/amber pour, nice white head, decent lacing. Lots of grapefruit up front and a malty finished. a little muddled, but nice. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Oct 18, 2009 tart fruits. hard to get past the tartness. dryish hoppy finish. complex enough to keep your interest. A good example of a red, if on the hoppy side. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Oct 17, 2009 22oz bottle via hagen. Pours a dark copper with a chunky beige head. Nose is toasted malts and citrus hops. Taste starts bittersweet and ends bittersweet, in between there are a LOT of flavors. Caramel, molasses, buttered biscuits, orange, grapefruit and even some pine that carries into the aftertaste. This is quite hoppy for a red ale and almost has some rye-like qualities, has a good strong malt backbone. Almost reminds me of a good black IPA. This is unique and very well thought out recipe, executed perfectly! jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 2, 2009 (draft). Clear amber color. Medium off white head. Light pine aroma. Light malt and pine flavors. Avg duration. Light bitter finish. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Fair lacing. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 27, 2009 This smells absolutely incredible. Sweet molasses with fruit, similar to a barleywine. Dark red-brown color. Flavor starts out malty, a little sweet, but with a hop that continuously grows to the finish. cstuartj (305), Washington, USA Sep 25, 2009 Brewed and dedicated to the believers of Ninkasi. Rich dark malt complexity is balanced by a plentiful hop presence bringing together perfection in every sip. Who knew believing had so many rewards.
