jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Dec 21, 2008 bottle from suzygreenburg. Tons of grassy and piney hops in the nose and on the tongue in this one. Very nice. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Dec 6, 2008 22oz Bottle. Nice floral hoppy nose. It has that nice juicy combination of west coast hops with good fragrant malts in a red. Maybe a touch of slightly rotty malt stems. Pours a translucent bright red, with a good creamy tan foam. Flavor is decent. There is an edge of isovaleric that is particular to me. Otherwise, a decent dry malt edge, some good west coast floral, and a flourish of under the table yeast. Decent, drinkable, fresh and flavorful. Nice bright grassy finish. Decent. Thanks Darrell! fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of sweet, earthy malt, lots of red fruits/berries blending with lots of toffee. Flavor keeps some of those fruits but focuses more on the earthy malt/toffee feel. Almost a bit too earthy/grainy on the tongue for me, just not entirely my thing, but a very good beer. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark red with a small, rapidly disappearing tan head. Aroma of sweet malt , fruits, strawberry seeds and raspberry seeds. Flavor of bitter hops, toast, and light fruits. Easy drinking and quite tasty! More of an amber ale than ASA to me. Quite good! pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Oct 30, 2008 Amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is malty with light alcohol, caramel, red fruits. Taste is a light fruitiness up front followed by a light hoppiness, light mixed nuts, light alcohol. Easy drinking ASA. Gromit (460), Port Orchard, Washington, USA Oct 26, 2008 Pours a dark cloudy mahogany color with a light head that leaves a nice delicate lace down the glass. Aroma is of dark fruits -- not much like a Red but definitely a strong ale. Smells Arrogant Bastard a bit? It’s nice, though.
Flavor is great, and truly expands as the beer warms. The sweetness from the dark fruits (raisins, apricots) is nicely offset by just the right amount of citrusy hops.
Palate is nicely crisp, but leaves a lingering taste. Overall, this is a solid beer. I’d love to find this on tap. This *almost* makes me wish I lived back in Eugene.
And perfect for my 450th review.
Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Oct 18, 2008 Lovely red color with almost no head. Very piney in the nose with caramel, pine and roast malt in the mouth. I’ve probably drank more of this beer in the last two years than any other brew because you can get it on tap anywhere in town and it’s just so damn tasty. This little brewery from Eugene is going to make some big noise in the next few years, keep your ear to the ground! Also Jamie is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, so I hope he meets with tons of success. Can’t wait for Oatis in bottles! darn1207 (528), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2008 on tap from bombs away cafe in corvalis after a osu beavers game. dark brown and red pour. sweet caramel malts and piney hops in the aroma. grain and malt roastiness backed with citrus hops. have a note that I detected cherry jam at some point (dunno, it was a long day of drinking). medium body. good.
