| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Pours a rich copper bronze with a good creamy head that clings to the side of the glass. Rich malt sweetness fills the aroma. Touches of dark fruits, could be berries and a rich mahogonay finish. Warmth in the mid palate, quite complex but finishes a little bile-like - but not in a bad way. A 1-beer on a winter night for me. Tripplebrew (500), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Pours a dark, yet clear reddish brown with frothy tan head. Aroma is a mix of spruce and citrus. Flavor is earthy spruce with lemon citrus undertones and a bit spicy. Very light body with medium carbonation. stchloe (491), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Far and away a favorite. Large body, and roasted barley and dark malts, and tons of hops, and a good ABV and it just lasts on the tongue. And Wow! brianprentiss (475), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2009 crisp yet full ale. wouldn’t have placed it in american strong ale category, but plenty of taste and would drink again. Gromit (462), Port Orchard, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 26, 2008 Pours a dark cloudy mahogany color with a light head that leaves a nice delicate lace down the glass. Aroma is of dark fruits -- not much like a Red but definitely a strong ale. Smells Arrogant Bastard a bit? It’s nice, though.
Flavor is great, and truly expands as the beer warms. The sweetness from the dark fruits (raisins, apricots) is nicely offset by just the right amount of citrusy hops.
Palate is nicely crisp, but leaves a lingering taste. Overall, this is a solid beer. I’d love to find this on tap. This *almost* makes me wish I lived back in Eugene.
And perfect for my 450th review.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours dark amber with a very slight red hue. Big foamy head with a ton of lacing. Aroma of subtle maltiness. Flavor is mainly sweet malt, with some roastiness, and some hop bitterness in the background. Not much of a finish, some bitterness that disappears quickly. Very rich. Not as complex and full bodied as I would expect for a strong ale. Regardless, still a decent beer. highibus (441), Mill Creek, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Pours a deep crimson with fluffy off white head. Decent lacing. Huge aroma of some hops and alcohol. It is only 7% so I do not know where that is coming from. Deep malt charecter with light sweetness and some well balanced hop bite. Good finish. Not bad. raphael (419), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 10, 2006 A thin whiff of dark malt immediately blended with resiny hops. Clloud reddish brown w ith thin quick head (on tap at rose & raindrop). i expec ted more of christmas beer, but this is a great (double?) IPA. the hops come on strong and teeter at the edge, kept in balance bythe hops blend & just enough malt to feel near bottom. Surprisingly light in texture & quaffability, deespite low head nice carbonation
