Aroma is malt, caramel and lots of hops. Flavor as a nice, powerful balance of malt, sweet caramel and lots of hops. Fine, rich body and a long flavorful finish. An interesting and well made mix of IPA and red ale. JCB (1777), Durham, North Carolina, USA

A very thick looking red pour, almost like it’s congealing or something. Decent fluffy head with a very fruity, floral aroma. I don’t know why but for some reason I was expecting the usual American double red, which is to say an Arrogant Bastard knockoff. While this one is certainly well-hopped, it’s got a nicely balanced quality all its own, with citrus hops, sweet malts, and a fairly crisp finish. Good one. shp555 (1688), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Recommended by the bartender when I asked for something hoppy that I would have no chance of trying where I live. Pour is a deep brown orange with a tight off-white khaki head. Aroma is resiny malt and citrus hops. The taste is nice, initially big, chewy and resiny hops, fading into a nice nutty malt backbone. Nice lasting bitter finish. hayduke (1659), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2008 From a 22 oz bottle, this poured a dark red with a light tan head and moderate lacing. Nose of citrus hops and caramel malts. Medium mouthfeel. Favors are rich with malts, citrus hops, and pine. Bitter finish. IndianaRed (1559), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 12, 2009 Bottle pours a murky redish brown with a small tan head. Aroma of woody brown sugary malts and some metalic piney hops. Flavor is more woody and metalic. Earthy and fairly bitter but not much flavor that I can fondly describe. Just a murky, muddy mess. Tree bark bitter trailer, and a feeling of utter disappointment. I have reason to expect greater things fron this brewer.
Maybe next time.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 6, 2009 Bottle. Hazy ruddy brown color, thin broken soapy white head. Very malt-forward aroma, but some earthy hops in background. Taste has more of a hop presence, but certainly not overwhelming or even significant, more of a simple citric finish. Decent, well-held together, but not hoppy enough for something called a double red. LilBeerDoctor (1508), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark red with a small, rapidly disappearing tan head. Aroma of sweet malt , fruits, strawberry seeds and raspberry seeds. Flavor of bitter hops, toast, and light fruits. Easy drinking and quite tasty! More of an amber ale than ASA to me. Quite good!
