Nose is toasted malts and citrus hops. Taste starts bittersweet and ends bittersweet, in between there are a LOT of flavors. Caramel, molasses, buttered biscuits, orange, grapefruit and even some pine that carries into the aftertaste. This is quite hoppy for a red ale and almost has some rye-like qualities, has a good strong malt backbone. Almost reminds me of a good black IPA. This is unique and very well thought out recipe, executed perfectly! robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA

pour is a semi-hazy maroon, with a small tan head, and very good lacing.
smell of spice, some cocoa, caramel, some brown sugar, malt, and roasted nuts.
taste is smooth and creamy, caramel, some spice, hoppy, a little brown sugar, some bitter-sweet chocolate, and a touch of nuts, ends refreshing, nicely bitter, with a touch of citrus.
overall a well rounded strong ale. ditmier (1096), Boise, Idaho, USA

Very nice hoppy strong aroma, piney, floral, great
Nice hoppyness in the taste too..pretty dominanat though to be honest the semi-sweet malt profile is large. There seems to be a battle in my mouth bewteen the two, it ends in an uneasy truce as the hops fade out half way down the throat. Very nice.
Good smooth palate, slightly sticky but alcohol well hidden.
LIked this one a lot, not up with Arrogant Bastard, but would like to taste fresh at brewery. jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 28, 2008 This beer could and should be great, but is mildly disappointing. Flat pour yields little head (like a homebrew that didn’t quite carbonate). Aroma of slight citrus and sweet malt. Nice flavor of chinook/centennial hops is crashing into sweet malts. But it is WAY too watery. Resinous finish. Beardface (1018), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Lovely red color with almost no head. Very piney in the nose with caramel, pine and roast malt in the mouth. I’ve probably drank more of this beer in the last two years than any other brew because you can get it on tap anywhere in town and it’s just so damn tasty. This little brewery from Eugene is going to make some big noise in the next few years, keep your ear to the ground! Also Jamie is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, so I hope he meets with tons of success. Can’t wait for Oatis in bottles! jimbowood (956), Athens, Georgia, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 16, 2009 22 oz bomber I picked up from my Seattle trip. Pours a deep and rich red hued brown. Big frothy light brown head. Beer is full of tight small bubbles. Nose is full of rich sweet malts, cinnamon, toast dark malts, brown sugar. Flavors do not follow through with the great nose. Very malt, hops are muted in flavor but still have a medium bitterness to the mouth. Alcohol is not well hidden. Some wood notes too. A pretty good beer.
