Appearance is ok: very light tan to off-white head and lace. Color is a very hazy medium brown. Sediment in the bottom says bottle conditioned. Aroma is hoppy and a darkish malt. Flavor is like some of the other Ninkasi beers much more interesting than the nose. Pick up a lot of maltiness, a little caramel, toffee, a hint of roastiness - tasty. Balanced. Body is good too - good carbonation. Finish is milder than the sipping flavor. CheersMate1 (799), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 11, 2009 Fluffy off-tan head. 22 oz. purchased at John’s Market Place in Portland, Oregon. Deep dark caramel brown. Fairly transparent, but it is very dark. Nice malt/hop balance. A very nice and sweet malt, but also balanced. The hops are definitely present. Wow, pretty good beer. Very malty, but it doesn’t have that hop backing that I was hoping it would have. More malty than sweet. Not excatly a thick beer, but a nice semi-smooth beer. Again, a little too malty for me. Plenty of great malts, but I feel with that it should be classified differently; decent brew. fakepurseninja (785), Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Really beautiful ruby red body with suprisingly little head. Lots of floral hops on the nose. Very grainy character with a big, sweet semi-burnt caramel backbone. Lots of Earthy hop notes with moderate citrus. Some toffee notes as well. Really great drink. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2007 DAMN GOOD! red brown body, dense with a huge kakhi head, sweet fresh hop nose, like a boqouet of fresh flowers, citrus, a meaty ale and a delicious one at that, certainly made me a believer Earlier Rating: 2/11/2007 Total Score: 3.6 (klcc micorbrew fest) small tan head, brown mirky body, sweet and beautiful fragrance of fresh hops and citrus, smells soooo good, real bitter but not entirely balanced flavor, really tastey either way though Travlr (755), Washington, Washington DC, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 18, 2008 Hmmm, normally I love these big red brews but this one seemed to be lacking something but then again I’m comparing against Lagunitas’ and Alesmith’s imp red which I loved both. Still solid though and well balanced. Glad I tried it. CelticBrew (696), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 23, 2008 Pours a deep amber/brown, forming a medium foamy head. Aroma of hoppy malts, a bit of candied fruits, matalic plums. Flavour is of spicy grapefruits, hops, soft pine resin with a full caramel malt character. Somewhat dry in the end, but overall tastey. Wish I could try on tap.
