| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 26, 2008 Pours a dark cloudy mahogany color with a light head that leaves a nice delicate lace down the glass. Aroma is of dark fruits -- not much like a Red but definitely a strong ale. Smells Arrogant Bastard a bit? It’s nice, though.
Flavor is great, and truly expands as the beer warms. The sweetness from the dark fruits (raisins, apricots) is nicely offset by just the right amount of citrusy hops.
Palate is nicely crisp, but leaves a lingering taste. Overall, this is a solid beer. I’d love to find this on tap. This *almost* makes me wish I lived back in Eugene.
And perfect for my 450th review.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2007 Was monikered "Ninkasi Believer" where I consumed it, and am surprised to see it is called a Double Red. To me, this was a fabulous Am. Strong Ale/Double IPA. Deep amber hue with adequate head. Gushing cascade boquet, and a flooding of Cascade rounded out my some of the usual PNW suspects. Adequate bitterness, but it definitely takes a back seat to the later edition hops. I would surmise that this is dry hopped with cascade hops--gives it a desirable, raw, edgy hop leaf flavor. Top notch. presario (3010), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2009 22oz bottle via hagen. Pours a dark copper with a chunky beige head. Nose is toasted malts and citrus hops. Taste starts bittersweet and ends bittersweet, in between there are a LOT of flavors. Caramel, molasses, buttered biscuits, orange, grapefruit and even some pine that carries into the aftertaste. This is quite hoppy for a red ale and almost has some rye-like qualities, has a good strong malt backbone. Almost reminds me of a good black IPA. This is unique and very well thought out recipe, executed perfectly!
