Recommended by the bartender when I asked for something hoppy that I would have no chance of trying where I live. Pour is a deep brown orange with a tight off-white khaki head. Aroma is resiny malt and citrus hops. The taste is nice, initially big, chewy and resiny hops, fading into a nice nutty malt backbone. Nice lasting bitter finish. scrizzz (1324), kirkland, Washington, USA

Great weighted raw grain character, earthy dense hops, but too much caramel malt and it finishes sweet and balanced snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA

Pours a DARK red (well, pretty much brown) with a fading tan head. Nose is mostly hoppy with a sweet strawberry fruitiness. Surprising amount of earthy and coffee-like roasted malt in the taste before the hops take over. A little bit of caramel sweetness too. Nice, long bitter finish, but the mouthfeel is just a little watery. Beerme (20), Seattle, Washington, USA

Good lacing and a sweet aroma. Big, smooth malt flavor balanced by a spicy hop finish. I’ll have this one again and again. humulushound (135), British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 9, 2009 I was pleasantly surprised with this ale. Pours deep maple-red with thin off-white head into snifter. Subtle yet enticing nose of cherry wood and sweet blossoms. Taste is initially strong bitter with sweet malt, dates, walnuts, raisins and spice in the mid-palate with a silky, bitter-burnt caramel finish. This ale made me a believer and I would definitely have it again. bhensonb (4360), Woodland, California, USA

Dark, really garnet color with a frothy beige head. Medium body with mild, creamy carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt (typical red) and pine and grapefruit. Light stone fruit esters parade around the middle, and the finish is well balanced. Very tasty. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
