blackmurder (140), sadf, Hawaii, USA May 8, 2008 A pretty hoppy and strong double IPA, I liked it and had it courtesy of Jamie from the Ninkasi brewery. riversideAK (1323), Shoreline, Washington, USA May 4, 2008 Pours a cloudy orange brown with a thin head. Aroma of pale malts, caramel malts, and floral and piney hops. The flavor has these notes as well with a moderate malty body, lots of malts, but not a lot of sweetness to be specific, and a piney floral finish. Not big bitterness, but more toward the moderate side. Pretty drinkable, alcohol was almost unnoticeable. It was just not what I really look for in an IIPA, but well done nonetheless. ElGaucho (1714), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 4, 2008 I have no recollection of this beer, but have a readable written rating of it so I know it’s legit. Piney hops that are fairy subtle. Hazy dark gold witout much head. Very solid. Their hops tend to be a notch below style: IIPA is more like an IPA; IPA is more like a Pale. Full bodied. bu11zeye (3443), Frisco, Texas, USA May 3, 2008 (22oz bottle) Pours a cloudy orange body with a small white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, caramel, and florals. Flavor of hops (pine, grapefruit) and caramel malt with a dry, bitter finish. DrBayern (845), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Apr 30, 2008 CelticBrew brought this bomber over to share the other day (4/28/08) - thanks Jim. Clear orange pour with a sturdy white head that lasted a good while - nice looking beer. Pretty hop dominated aroma of pine and grapefruit rind, yet there is a substantial malt base of caramel based aromas as well. Medium to full body, medium carbonation, and a thick, but not sticky mouthfeel. Flavor has significant sweetness, but the balance is there with a healthy dose of the aforementioned grapefruit bitterness. I’ve some of these DIPA’s to be overly sweet, but this was not in spite of all the malt used. Very tasty.
