DrBayern (883), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Apr 30, 2008 CelticBrew brought this bomber over to share the other day (4/28/08) - thanks Jim. Clear orange pour with a sturdy white head that lasted a good while - nice looking beer. Pretty hop dominated aroma of pine and grapefruit rind, yet there is a substantial malt base of caramel based aromas as well. Medium to full body, medium carbonation, and a thick, but not sticky mouthfeel. Flavor has significant sweetness, but the balance is there with a healthy dose of the aforementioned grapefruit bitterness. I’ve some of these DIPA’s to be overly sweet, but this was not in spite of all the malt used. Very tasty.
jjpm74 (2760), Connecticut, USA Jul 21, 2008 Pours caramel with a white head. Smells earthy with a floral nose. Tastes bitter with a weird artificial cleaner finish. boFNjackson (480), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 18, 2008 PIB, tap... Poured orange with a white head. Really citrus (like candy sweet) hop aroma. Chilling palate that’s well in carbonation. Flavors of hops and sweet citrus and some cracker-malt. Finishes smooth. These guys make great IPAs. robforbes (635), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 18, 2008 pours a milky amber-orange with a small egg-shell head, good lacing.
smell of some grapefruit, a few malt, touch of citrus, some sweetness.
taste is grapefruit, pine, fruit, caramel, nice smooth and bitter finish. ChainGangGuy (1457), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, orange body encircled with a ring of white bubbles.
Smell: Aroma of citrus and apricots with no more than a light touch of malts.
Taste: Slightly bready maltiness with a bit of caramel sweetness. Taste of grapefruit rinds and apricots. Punchy, medium-high hop bitterness. Touch of alcohol on the drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A passable Double IPA. ratman197 (2184), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bomber poured a clear amber with a lasting light amber head. Aromas of carmel, eathiness, grapefruit, light orange and a hint of pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a lightly dry finish. Flavors of carmel, light grapefruit zest, light orange and light pine with a smooth lingering bitter finish.
I’m very disappointed in this beer coming from Oregon. Lots of bitterness but seriously lacking in hop flavor and aroma.
