Brownish amber, clear, large off-white head but no lacing. Sweet and grainy, plenty of alcohol, carbonation is a little bit prickly. Finish is dry and has an alcohol burn. Closer to malt liquor than bock, but pretty tasty none-the-less. Found at Famous Liquor, Lombard, IL.

Pours a clear dark golden bronze with a thin, spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet pale malts with some light toasty notes. Body has good fullness and light sugary sweetness throughout that helps hide the alcohol. Pretty smooth and drinkable but not much of a true bock beer.

Bottle from John’s Market in Portland, OR. Light amber color with a decent beige head. Aromas of caramel malt and noble hop. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is some alcohol over sweet caramel, without enough hop to balance. Ok, but not for me.

500ml bottle pours caramel brown and clear with a tall tan/brown colored head. First smell is sweet honey and caramel malt, a light touch of alcohol, some raisins and toffee and a burnt corn note. Flavor is similar: burnt toffee and toast, honey and caramel, the texture is full and oily, thick and syrupy, mostly sweet but with a coarse and bitter palate. Surprisingly drinkable (I think it benefits from being fresh), and in the vein of a European Strong Dark Lager or a Strong Dunkler Bock.

This was surprisingly good and was reminiscent of a Maibock, albeit a puissant one. Lovely, spritely tangerine color with decent tan head and carbonation filling the bottom half of the glass. Aroma of flowered hops and malt, enjoyable sweet maltiness, and some candi sugar. Decent malt flavor with a high degree of fruitiness and some floweriness--unexpected of a beer originiating form this region. A hint of fusel. Candi sugar aftertatse that adds a nice underpinning.

I had no idea that this was listed as a malt liquor when I purshased it. Hazy light orange bronze body with a yellowish khaki head. Sweet notes of apples and caramel candy dominate. There is also some sweet beet juice. The taste has some sickly sweet notes of caramel apple. There is also some more of that beet character that I smelled. At least it’s not corn dominated. A little bit of alcohol burn in the finish.
