Sweet nose, chocolate and coffee. Sweet taste to match. A bit thin compared to most American stouts, but correspondingly low alcohol makes it an appropriate session beer.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2009 Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Deep, nearly opaque brown with a creamy off white head. Sweet aroma, milk chocolate with some fruitiness that’s unexpected. Flavor is sweet, malty, bready, toast, chocolate, some fruity esters from the yeast. Dry finish. Very nice. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Served on cask, this brew did not live up to it’s cool name. Deep chestnut body with a cream head followed shortly by a roasty aroma of brown malt and manes of chocolate. Nice brown malt body, dry, but creamy finish. Not bad, but somehow a disappointment. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2009 On tap at Nodding Head in Philly, PA. Pours a deep brown body with a tint of red. Finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma is like a musty and dirty brown. It has a real dusty fruitiness to it with some chocolate and roast hints. Very interesting aroma. I like the flavor a bit more. Starts with a sweeter and somewhat dusty fruity malt before some brown ale chocolate and a touch of roast come in. Finishes with that same dirty fruit, musty sweet malts, and chocolate brown roasts for a somewhat dry ending. Lingers for a moderate duration after a medium, smooth body. Overall, this is what I would expect from a beer named "Grog." A nice blend of somewhat smokey, dirty, and musty flavors with some fruit and chocolate to balance. A unique beer all-around. Not bad. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Very dark brown color with a small tan head. Very sweet aromas of caramel and chocolate. Smooth, malty flavor is very sweet, packed full of caramel up front, followed by some chocolate. Thins out as it goes along. DJMonarch (6941), Northwich, Cheshire, England

Smoky malt aroma. Black strong in alcohol and a little rich on the palate with a crisp and slightly dry malt finish. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA

Pours blackish with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is deep malty. Taste has some nice choconess, syrupy and pretty decent.
