kwerikson (62), burlington, New Jersey, USA Nov 3, 2009 pores out clear golden yellow and produces an awsome tall giant of a head that is frothy and lumpy with an off white color. the body is straight up amber and clear in color with a substantial amount of bubbles rising from the center of the glass. the head is also slow to fall. the aromas are yeasty and a musky mildew. i can also slightly pick up the alcohol in the nose and something along the lines of being fruity, but i can not identify. the flavors are very nice and the the brew is medium bodied. i can taste cashews, pale and caramel malts, some toffee, and a slight hit of caramel mixed in with milk chocolate. not hoppy or yeasty at all, very pleseant and has a nice aftertaste when this beer finishes. makes you very warm as it goes down, and also very enjoyable to drink. Derek881 (486), Frederick, Maryland, USA Oct 28, 2009 Poured from the bottle into a trappist glass to drink. The beer had a cloudy deep brown-amber color with a big, creamy, tan head that had great retention and cling. It had a pleasant aroma with of dense fruits, including raisins and prunes. There was also a malty component, some spices, and brown sugar. Its flavor was sweet and fruity with a malty, raisin taste and was quite pleasant, with a very mild touch of bitterness. The beer had a lighter, thinner body, was just a touch watery, and had ample carbonation and life. Overall I really enjoyed this beer and would be happy to have it again. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 23, 2009 33 cl. Dark brown and cloudy, with a lasting creamy disc above. Brown sugar and toffee aroma. Taste is at first brown sugar, cherry banana, and wood. After a short while the wood, iodine, peppery spice and resin become dominant. Long finish of oak, salt, cherry and cabernet is nice. Medium body is just way too fizzy with flare-ups in the mouth, nearly ruining this beer for me. Well-dried by peppery spices and light alcohol. Nice complexity, with lots of metamorphoses through the session, but none of the sips really wows me. jimhilt (1663), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Oct 5, 2009 Pours a five finger, pale tan head that fades very slowly to a thin layer leaving a some lace. Cloudy brown/amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Woody/raisiny nose. Flavor is almost sweet, woody, spicy and herbal. $3.95 for a 330ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 12, 2009 Bottle from Wells. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a small white head. Aroma of raisins, caramel, and malt; a little faint. Big, creamy body, lots of sweet malt, but with a hint of sourness. Dry finish. Average. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 27, 2009 Bottled. Poured clear, medium reddish-amber with a creamy, well-formed cap of beige head. The aroma picked up raisins, figs, and dates with a little caramel support and a lovely dose of peppery yeast.. some spearmint accent that grew as it warmed up. The flavor opened with tangy yeast and minty notes, followed closely by raisins, sweeter chocolate, and caramel.. coriander and spicy yeast laced throughout.. finished with mint, dark fruit, and a pinch of licorice.. long peppery aftertaste. Medium-plus bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. a bit too aggressive and sharp on the back-end.. filling in the belly. This was drinkable and interesting, but not great. doublebock (196), USA May 28, 2009 Cloudy orange color with thin white head. Bready aroma. First impression is roasted malt followed by a complex oaky and tobacco notes with robust maltiness heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA May 26, 2009 Hazy dark copper body when held to light. The head was dense and medium khaki. Funky sour apples with some leather and hay. The taste was lightly sweet green apples and salty leather. There was also some hint of cocoa in the finish. A decent and interesting brew.
